My Mental Demons
I battled addiction since I was a teen
but when I drank, I was really, really mean
drinking allowed me to escape the past
though the happiness I had didn't even last.
Addiction gave me a life I didn't even know
I drank a lot when I was sad and feeling low
it took me a while to see that I was weak
but when I quit drinking, I could finally speak.
