Mesothelium
Mesothelium, oh mysterious name
A disease that brings so much pain
A tiny layer, so often forgotten
But when disturbed, it leaves hearts broken
Fibrous tissues, lining our chest
Protecting our lungs, they do their best
But when asbestos comes into play
The mesothelium begins to decay
Invisible fibers, floating in the air
Inhaled unknowingly, without any care
They settle in, deep in our lungs
And slowly, silently, they start their hunt
Years and decades, can go by
Before mesothelioma starts to pry
Into our bodies, attacking with might
Leaving us helpless, in a ferocious fight
Breathlessness, chest pain, coughs that linger
Weakened bodies, our spirits start to wither
Treatment options, often few and far
This disease, oh how cruel and bizarre
From miners to builders, to soldiers brave
So many lives, this disease has enslaved
Their battles, their stories, we must share
And show the world, how much we care
Mesothelium, a word that holds pain
But through our poems, we must refrain
To spread awareness, to bring light
And maybe, just maybe, one day we'll win this fight.
