Truth be told
Truth be told
There's a song called Truth Be Told that I love, and it goes like this:
Lie number one, you're supposed to have it all together
And when they ask how you're doing
Just smile and tell them, "Never better."
Lie number 2, everybody's life is perfect except yours
So keep your messes and your wounds.
And your secrets safe with you, behind closed doors.
Truth be told.
The truth is rarely told. Now
I say I'm fine, yeah, I'm fine oh I'm fine, hey I'm fine but I'm not.
I'm broken.
And when it's out of control, I say it's under control, but it's not.
And you know it.
I don't know why it's so hard to admit it.
When being honest is the only way to fix it.
There's no failure, no fall
There's no sin you don't already know.
So let the truth be told.
We don't let the truth be told in this society. We lie about how "perfect" our lives are on social media every day. We never say how we are actually feeling. We are all broken, we have all messed up, and we are definitely not okay. Yet we lie. We are ashamed of failure and of looking bad. Looking at everyone elses "perfect" life online makes so many people feel bad.
I tell all my truths in my blog. I exposed all my dark and dirty secrets in both of my books that I wrote about my life. Why do I do this? Because through my darkest times, I felt so alone, like no one else was going through this or could understand what I was going through. I felt like we needed more people to tell the truth. If more people did this, others wouldn't be so ashamed or feel so alone like I was. We all have been through this. We all try to hide what we are feeling by saying that we are fine when we are clearly not.
So today, my friends, I am here to say let the truth be told. It's okay not to be perfect. It's okay to reach out and say I need help. It's okay to feel broken or lost, but it's not okay to keep hiding it, to pretend everything is okay when it clearly is not. Let the truth be told.
