Lost Childhood 33
The cameras that had been installed had not really picked up activity from the house in the last two weeks. Everything was quiet and no unfamiliar vehicles had been spotted in the neighborhood. It seemed to be turning into what could turn out to be an uneventful summer. Emily and Martina had settled into their favorite routine of playing hopscotch on the sidewalk in the front yard. While Sara kept an eye on them sitting on the front porch. She occupied her time between that and reading a book about what to expect in your first year as a nurse. She couldn’t wait for summer to end so her internship could begin.

Right now besides watching the girls and reading she had a lot of free time she needed it fill with something. With Jorge being in Columbia and not having heard from Alex in a while she needed more to preoccupy her time and thoughts. Life for her was a little boring at the moment and that was never a good thing. She thought about giving Alex a call but she didn’t know what his schedule was like and really didn’t want to send the wrong message. Sara just wanted something more to do with all of her extra time; she was already getting bored on top of being lonely. Picking up her phone she made the decision to call Alex but when she went to dial his number her phone ranged. Although she didn’t recognize the number, she answered it anyway.

“¡Hola mi vida!” the voice on the other end of the line exclaimed. “¿Jorge?” Sara responded. “Sí, mi amor. ¿Cómo estás?” He answered. “Did you change your phone?” She asked. Jorge told her that he was using his work phone, which was partially the truth; when he traveled for business he never used his personal phone. This was also another precautionary measure that Andres had trained him to use when he wasn’t in Columbia. “I’ll explain more when I see you”, he told her. He informed her that he was in the country for a few weeks on business and wanted to take her out to dinner. Sara was shocked but asked him when and he said tomorrow evening. He also told her to pick a really nice place because he had something very important to talk about with her.

He then told her he had to go but would talk with her after his meeting today. Sara didn’t know what to say except okay as Jorge ended the call. She just stared at the girls playing in the front yard and wondered what was going on. Why would Jorge be in the country and exactly where was he? Was he in Texas? She guessed that was the only way he could take her to dinner. Also what did he want to talk about and why all of a sudden did he want to do it now? Well at least she had something to look forward to and it would be good to see him and stop thinking about Alex, which was not a good idea to begin with since she loved Jorge. But Alex made her feel really special and treated her like she preferred to be treated.
