The Black Polythene Bag
(Disclaimer: Based on real stories that I read on a site with my touch added to it.🙏)

I searched the whole cupboard.... There were no more. I took the keys and decided to go to a nearby medical store.

I had just parked my scooty when I saw a couple nearby on a bike. The man indicated his wife to go and get something.

Today there was a new guy too working on the store. The women reached up to him. By this time I was also there. I thought maybe she has come to buy condoms and so she is so nervous.

She opened her lips slightly and softly said, "2 whispers". There were some college students on the other side. They started giggling. The new guy was just about to hand her 2 whispers when Raghav suddenly screamed, "Ajit!!! Are you mad?!!" He took the sanitary pads from his hands and kept them inside a black polythene bag and gave it to the lady. She took it from his hands immediately and with her head bowed, sobbing slightly, ran towards her husband who seemed angry about something.

Raghav then gave a warning look to Ajit and got busy with other customers. Ajit then asked me what I need... I said in a normal tone, "1 packet of whispers pls". The college guys started giggling again and I distinctly heard one of them mutter "Seems like an universal periods day". Ajit was just about to put the packet into the black polythene when I stopped him and said, "It's ok, I'll take it like that. Black polythene's are cancerous. You should also stop using them". Ajit handed me the packet and gave me a small smile.

As I was leaving, one of the guys shouted, "Don't you feel ashamed". I really wanted to turn around and give them a fine retort. But they were 6 and I was 1 so I felt safer walking away.

********************************

A study that investigated black plastics shows that about 40% of these products contained heavy metals such as cadmium, mercury, and lead. These metals are known carcinogens that can also cause serious developmental and reproductive damage, even at low levels.

And yet we use them because it's ok if our sister or mother or daughter suffer from cancer... But it's not okay if others come to know that they are normal... It's not ok if others come to know that just like a normal female they get their monthly periods.

Menstruation is a natural phenomenon in females. It's a god's gift which was also involved in giving you as a gift to your parents. You lived in your mother's womb for 9 months... The same place where the menstrual blood had flowed for past several years... Didn't you feel ashamed then? Well your mother didn't....

You might think that women themselves shy away.... It's because you make them feel they are impure... You teach them since childhood that periods is a matter of secrecy... Keep this secret from your father, keep this secret from your brother... Even though everyone knows you are of age and might start menstruating soon still you should keep this secret, keep this secret from everyone.

If you still feel that menstruation is something females should be ashamed of... Then how I wish your mother would have menstruated the month your first cell was born, rather than missing her period.
