Near the Water pt. 9
Waking in panic, I sprung up from the bed, forgetting all existence, but the sudden laughter behind me made me calm down, “ wow someone’s in panic from all the excitement..” I slowly turned around forgetting whom I had let into my room last night, only to find Alex holding a towel around his waist. Water dripped from his hair and started to fall on the sides of his face. Embarrassment made me flustered, I started thinking, Oh no I was caught vulnerable, gosh darnit Rowan look what you did now!... “ Talking to yourself now I see?” Alex was closer than before, I looked at him glaring, and gritting my teeth I replayed, “ Someone’s in kicking range” I giggle evilly as he backed away and moved to the other side of the bed, “ hey, I was funny, you Ma’am were dangerous” some-how this made my heart smile, like a three year old winning their first achievement. I walked over to him, grabbing an extra pair of his clothes from the last time he spent the night with me. Well actually we live together but with all the shipment changes more people have been getting hurt or dying then normal. I held the clothes out to him and he looked at me concerned, “ since when did you keep my clothes?” I replayed biting the edge of my thumb skin, “Since I wore them when you haven’t been home in weeks..” silence broke out as he took his clothes and put them one, me still facing the wall with my back turned to him, he suddenly wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his forehead on my shoulder. I placed my hands on top of his and smiled. His warmth against mine made the world melt away and relaxed my nerves. The siren went off again letting everyone know it was safe to go out once again, but before it ended it beeped twice, once long then the other short, making it loud and clear that I was being called to the main building for another check up.. But this time felt different.. It felt off. Alex knew I was unsure of this and reassured me by saying, “ don’t worry love, I'll go with you this time. Okay?” I nodded, looking around for my knives and my gun then placed them back onto my belt. I blew out what candles were still lit from the night before and unlocked the door, while Alex moved the metal poles out they're places and we headed up to the surface. Alex closed the door and locked it with the small silver key he wears around his neck. I always wondered why but when I asked he would always say, “ it reminds me of my home” and of course I still don’t understand what that means. My thoughts once again interrupted by the siren giving me a 5 minute warning, Alex grabbed my hand locking his fingers in between mine and led the way. Butterflies in my stomach hurt more than getting shot or stabbed, and within seconds we were there.
