Have you ever been told leave well enough alone...
One beautiful day in California I came across a baby house finche. Having raised two myself I thought he was much to small to be out of the nest. On the property there were quite a few finches nesting all around.
The little guy let me pick him up without a peep. Looked him over real good he seemed healthy enough so I placed him in the nest that was inside a fake plant. As gently as I could I lowered him in to the nest. Upon letting go the little guy let out two of the biggest sqwaks I have ever heard.
Within five seconds I had about six finches sqwaking and flying all about. I thought to myself... Wrong nest? There was so much commotion it brought all kinds of birds to the scene including JACK AND JILL the two house finches I raised last year. Apparently I placed the baby in the wrong nest. What was amazing to me is the owner of the nest was telling the mother of the baby finch where her baby was. I know this because they both flew over to the nest and sure enough there was her baby sitting there next to three eggs that had not hatched yet and a very angry bird looking at him as if to was saying wtf. Realizing what I had done I quickly took the baby finch out of that nest this time he was quite loud and hard to handle. I knew of another nest close by but it was in the gutter under the eve to the house. Had to get a step stool which wasn't a big deal except there was at least 4 or 5 birds yelling at me. Not wanting to give any bird a heart attack I simply opened up my hands and two finches flew real close tweeted some words to him and that little guy flew!!!
He was so little still had little fuzzies a top his head. Turns out my mom had done the same thing a few days prior. So it probably took some time before he got out. Then I come along and do it again. Know wonder they were so upset ... Lol.
