UB ( CHAPTER 1)
Kianna Smith's POV

The University of Buenavista was full of surprises. One of the biggest surprises was Harvey Vior, the man who would change my life forever.

Harvey was the captain of the basketball team, and he had a reputation as the school's heartthrob. I, on the other hand, was just a simple girl with a love for books and an intense passion for music.

One day in the school library, I was peacefully studying when Harvey and his basketball teammates barged in, laughing loudly and disrupting the quietness of the room. I tried to ignore them, but they were being particularly rowdy that day. Finally fed up, I marched over to Harvey's table and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Excuse me, could you and your friends please keep it down?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm.

Harvey looked up at me, his eyebrows raised. "And who are you, exactly?" he asked, his tone mocking.

"I'm Kianna. I'm trying to study and your noise is incredibly distracting," I replied, my own voice starting to rise.

Harvey just rolled his eyes and turned back to his friends. "Ignore her, guys. Let's keep having fun," he said dismissively.

I could feel my anger boiling now. "That's not acceptable! You need to show some respect for other students trying to study," I said firmly, my hands clenched at my sides.

Harvey glared back at me. "And who are you to tell me what to do? You're just a nobody," he spat out, the words filled with annoyance.

That was it. I saw red. "Excuse me? Just because I'm not on the basketball team and not as popular as you doesn't mean I don't matter. I have just as much of a right to study here as you do," I said passionately.

And that was how our first encounter ended - with me storming out of the library, feeling victorious but also a little shaken. I'd never been that angry before, especially not at someone like Harvey. But little did I know that our fiery interaction was only the beginning of a much bigger journey that would change my life forever.

After our first encounter, Harvey and I didn't interact much. He would give me knowing glances in the hallways, as if he was trying to intimidate me, but I didn't let it bother me. However, one day things escalated.

I was sitting in the cafeteria with a book in hand, minding my own business, when Harvey and his friends sat down at the table beside me. At first, they were just talking and eating their lunch, but then Harvey caught sight of the book in my hand.

"Hey, guys, look at what Kianna is reading!" he exclaimed, holding my book up for all to see. "It's some old, boring classic. I guess that's all she's good for."

His friends all laughed along with him, and my face flushed with embarrassment and anger. "What's wrong with reading classics?" I shot back hotly. "At least I'm expanding my mind. I could suggest some books for you if you're interested."

Harvey just scoffed. "Why would I ever be interested in what you have to say? You're just a nobody, remember?"

The rest of his friends joined in, making fun of me and my interests, and I felt like shrinking into the background. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I stood up from the table, my fists clenched at my sides.

"You know what? You may be popular and have a lot of friends, but that doesn't give you the right to make fun of me or put me down. I may not be on your level, but that doesn't mean I don't have value," I said, my voice trembling a little from emotion.

Harvey just laughed again. "Whatever you say, Kianna. Good luck with your boring books and sad little life."

I walked away, my heart pounding and my eyes stinging with unshed tears. It was clear that Harvey had no respect for me and probably never would. But little did I know that our paths would cross again in a much more significant way.
