When the van came to a halt, the villagers, gaunt and weary, gathered around. One of them brought forth a child wrapped in a thin cloth.
The boy’s body was all bones and hollows, his breath shallow. The doctor’s heart clenched at the sight. Quickly, he laid the child on a makeshift cot, setting up an IV drip to infuse vital nutrients into his system. As the hours ticked by, the faint rise and fall of the boy's chest became steadier, a fragile sign of life fighting against overwhelming odds.
