Unexpected Encounter
CHAPTER ONE

Maya stood at the other end of the door, perplexed by the situation unfolding in front of her.

"James, how could you do this?" a dark brown-haired girl inquires of Meetwrite's chief editor, James Matthews. He was in the same state as I was, completely perplexed. They were arguing in his office about something I'm still perplexed about. I was just standing there watching the whole thing when my boss took notice of me. I wasn't sure what emotion was on his face, and for a split second, I was sure it said "you came at the right time," but I wasn't completely sure.
I considered rushing back to my desk, which was just outside his office and where people used to think I was his "secretary or something." That alone made me roll my eyes, I mean me, Maya Gibbons. A talent for writing. I graduated from the top university in California last year with a degree in English literature, and they want to compare me to a "secretary," to put it bluntly.
I was literally enraged at this point, but I jumped out of my thoughts only to be violently grabbed by my boss and trapped inside his arms. I was literally shocked that no movement came from me, and I could feel my eyes widening as I tried to grasp the full picture of the situation that had just occurred.
What's more, I'm left stunned when the following words cause my legs to almost touch the floor if it weren't for my boss's firm grip on me.
"I did, indeed. I've already told you that I'm too busy to have a genuine conversation with you. I only do one night a week, but you don't seem to understand that in your small mind. But, sadly, all of that came to a halt. I've made the decision to finally settle down..." The words flew out of his mouth as if nothing could stop them. His tone was much more forceful than what he wanted to lead on to. I swear I wanted to pass out after the last sentence, but he made sure I was conscious and aware of what was going on. He drew me in closer and looked me in the eyes.
I could feel my breath becoming stuck in my throat and my cheeks becoming warmer than usual.
"I'm getting married, no, we're getting married," he said, his face flushed with emotion that left me speechless. The dark brown haired girl approached us, grabbed James from me, and almost pushed me to the ground if it hadn't been for the door that saved me. I grabbed it, straightened myself, and looked at the scene that was playing out in front of me, a scene in which I had found myself unexpectedly involved.

Clap!

That's all I heard, along with heals clicking on the floor in front of me. I looked up and saw the girl up close. She was a little femine and a little too plain for James' taste. It's not that I know what his tastes were, but it was just a slip of the tong. She became enraged and reached out to slap me as well.

At the same time, I found myself closing my eyes and clenching my fists, my heart pounding. Before her hands could reach me, which was more than 5 minutes later, they were blocked by James's tightly gripped hand. I blinked open my eyes slightly and came across the scene. The girl was now enraged, her mouth set in a scowl. She snatched her hand fiercely back and said, "You will regret this!" as she walked out the door, leaving it to slam shut with a loud bang.

At the same time, I found myself on the floor, surrounded by darkness.
