The Northern Star pt. 2
Space. Nothing, but an endless void of darkness and nothingness. At least, that's how people see it. Nobody knows what lies beyond our galaxy, for all secrets and mysteries of the universe have been covered or whitewashed. But still, even in a field of darkness, the stars shone together with the full moon.
In the distance, earth stood silent as satellites and comets flew by. But that night, something was also flying through the sky. Something large. Something colorful. Something, out of this world. The object let out a silent shrill as it disappeared behind the moon. From behind the glowing ball, a trail of tracks materialized. With that, the object finally made itself clear. With rainbow fumes releasing from its funnel, and blue paintwork shining in the moonlight, a locomotive emerged from behind the moon, bouncing and wobbling down the tracks. Behind, ten passenger carriages followed with like baby ducks.
The Northern Star had returned.
With its headlights beaming forth, the tracks lead the engine and the express into the mouth of a tunnel. As they traveled through, the walls were covered with shining ruddy stones that gave the engine a reddish tint.
When the express exited the tunnel, it found itself inside a city so bright, that nobody couldn't see the stars above.
The tracks appeared high above the city streets as the engine trucked around the many factories, skyscapes, and buildings, leaving behind a trail of rainbow smoke. The engine didn’t know where it was, or where it was heading, but it knew as long there were tracks, there was a way.
Soon, the tracks lead into a tall stone wall, where, in a shower of gold dust, a tunnel formed. The engine knew this was the way out of the city. It let out a whistle that echoed throughout the city as it put more pressure on its pistols, letting out more steam from underneath its-now-sped-up wheels in the process, to change toward it.
As the engine entered the tunnel, it spotted a faint gleaming up ahead, before it grew into a bright light that cleared away the darkness of the tunnel.
