Prior to the events of that evening, my instincts had always told me that there was something amiss with my wife.

She suddenly developed interest in watching Kungfu rather than her favourite Tv series.

After dinner that day, a little misunderstanding ensued between us . As always she lashed hurtful words at me.

I just couldn't control my emotions so I dashed towards her with a tight fist ready to unleash my anger.

Something unusual happened.

I can't explain how it happened but the next minute I was on the floor panting and pleading to be freed from her grip.

I saw her martial art on full display.

My friends found it hard to believe my ordeal when I told them . They said my story sounded like something I made up.

If only our six months old baby could talk, he would testify to what he saw that evening.

Femi was the only one who believed my story, but he did not mince words in apportioning blame to me.

"Femi , why you go talk like that. You know how women are. You can't win them in a word battle . The only way I could shut her up was employing my fist". I said in self defense

"Collins, first of all , it very wrong to lay your hands on a woman no matter how provoked you are".

I drew closer and listened with rapt attention as he dished out wisdom from his pot of knowledge.

"Being a man is not just about the muscles and strengths , it starts with being able to control your emotions".

"I would be a big liar to say my wife and I have never had any misunderstanding . But let me tell you a shocking truth. I have never laid my hands on her despite the words that escape from her mouth whenever she is irritated".

" Does that mean I am not prone to anger? No I am . Here is the little secret".

" A misunderstanding cannot be quenched if both parties are angry . One has to be calm to prevent it from escalating into violence."

" Whenever my wife and I have any misunderstanding , I dare not react immediately as it would be based on anger. I take a walk or if it is late I make my way to the toilet with my earphones plugged in "

" When I see the atmosphere is less tense , we talk things over and reconcile our differences".

" Just like that?". I asked with a puzzled look.

" Just like that bro . Also, always learn to say sorry even if you are not wrong".

Femi was right .

This afternoon I had another misunderstanding with my wife. To her surprise I left the house and went for a walk.

As I was leaving, I could hear her ranting " if you think you you are a man enough come and face me. Real men don't run".

I paid deaf ears to all that.

After what seems like an hour I came back to the house with her favourite ice cream.

I apologized and we settled our differences.

As she gulped down the contents in the cup , I came over to her ears and whispered.

" You were daring me if I am man enough right? There is only one way to find out now" I said as I rubbed her palms.

"Go joor naughty you." She said teasingly with a chuckle.

With both hands I lifted her up and made my way to the other room.
