The Road to Grace Part 7
"Are you okay?" Shawn finally asked Kelsey who had remained eerily quiet the whole drive to school.
"Yeah... I guess."
"Are you mad at me?"
"Not at all. I just know after school I'm gonna be in so much trouble."
"Tell her you slept outside last night maybe she'll feel a little remorse."
"It's not going to matter. I'll be grounded for 3 months if I'm lucky."
"Well, you ever need a rescue just keep my number close by."
"Thanks," she said sighing as he pulled up to the school.
"Kelsey...hang in there. It's not forever."
She nodded, "I know...well, maybe I can see you again soon. I might leave my phone here at school for a day act like I lost it. Thanks again for everything."
She leaned over and planted a surprise kiss on Shawn's lips before releasing another sigh, pulling the truck door open, and marched into school.
Shawn watched her walk in before he shifted his truck into drive and eased his way out of the long parking lot.
He jumped as sirens rang and blue lights flashed behind him as he reached the stop sign at the highway.
Shit
What did he do? He was stopped. He wasn't speeding...
There came a firm tap on his driver's side window.
Shawn could feel his insides quivering as he rolled down his window and put his shifter in park.
"Step out of the car please."
"Why? what did I do?"
"Step out of the car."
Shawn's eyes widened at the cops impatient tone, unbuckled his seat belt, and stepped out onto the pavement where he saw a second cop car behind them, directing traffic.
"Don't look so surprised. You know what you did. And so do I so be honest with me and you won't be in trouble."
"I really don't know."
"Why you look so nervous? Are you intoxicated?"
"I got a condition and when I'm pulled over for no reason and made to get out the car hell yeah I'm nervous."
"How do you know Kelsey McCann?"
"... She's a friend..."
"Is that right? She was kidnapped from her house last night."
"No!"
"And so you know boy I saw her get out of your car. You...
"Yeah... I guess."
"Are you mad at me?"
