A LETTER TO MR E. CORDETA
May 27, 2021

Young Sir,

I am thrilled to receive this letter. It means a whole lot to me. You know the writing journey is a very lonely one and it is easy to doubt yourself and just give up on the whole thing. Receiving a letter like this from anyone at all gives motivation and that 'extra something' to keep on writing . I have schoolwork, yes, lots of it but for something I love I always find time. I will not say I haven't been posting write-ups because of school work. I took a hiatus from Writco because I want to improve myself by reading more and experimenting and imitating writers to find my voice. I do not want to assess my work based on only Love and OMG emojis, believe me while this is tantalizing it can be very misleading. I want to assess myself based on the standards set by other great writers. Did I write this sentence right? How would Hemingway or Fitzgerald or Guy de Maupassant do it? And my oh my, this self-scoring/ self-analyzing repertoire can be frustrating but I am improving, slowly but surely.

I will read your work. Why wouldn't I? You're my precious precious fan and I can't afford to lose you. For taking out time to send a letter to me (I haven't received any letters from anyone for months now), this is the little favour I am willing do in return. And I will read MIK GUNNI'S stories too.

Sorry I took this long to reply, I haven't been on Writco in quite some time.

Yours sincerely,
I.K INYANG (drINK).
