Vows.
The day was absolutely perfect. Like something from a picturesque storybook. God knows Nick had spent enough time cursing and threatening the universe in the lead up to their special day that even all-powerful beings had to be cowering in the corner to adhere his will.
Years had led to this moment; from their bright-eyed and ruddy-cheeked childhoods, stumbling through voice-breaking and stuttered confessions during their teen years, to now - Leon and Nick standing at the end of the aisle, in front of an audience of all their friends and family, promising the rest of their lives to each other.
Leon knew he could brush up quite suave when the moment called for it. He’d put slow, deliberate care into each step of his preparation this morning - smiling through every stroke of the hair and makeup brushes. It was all worth it to see Nick’s beaming smile as he’d walked up the centre aisle towards the blond.
Of course, Nick was absolutely breath-taking. Even more than usual, which was something Leon hadn’t thought could be possible. As his almost-husband glided towards him with effortless grace, the blond had been overcome with a bright, bubbly feeling of warmth and joy at the reminder that this was his reality. That the man of his dreams, his closest friend, somehow found as much joy and fulfilment in their relationship as he did.
Nick’s eyes had shimmered with welling tears of happiness as they’d finally stood within breathing distance of each other. His soft whisper had been one of wonderment,
“Hi, gorgeous. Fancy seeing you here.”
Leon smirked, “Hi, yourself.”
“Are you ready to do this?” Nick asked, tone unusually serious. “This is your last chance to back out. After this, you’re mine forever. I’m not letting you go. I am ridiculously stubborn.”
The blond smiled wider and took the brunet’s hand. Ever-so-gently, he kissed the top of it, maintaining eye contact,
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. I love you,” Leon stated. “I’ve been yours, and only yours, since the day we met.”
This had made Nick flush deeply. “Save it for the vows, you sap.”
Thus, here they were. Both teary-eyed as they began their back-and-forth of vows, promising themselves to each other for eternity.
Leon started, “I would...
