Beautiful Jungle Damsels
It was a pleasant hike through the rainforest. I was greeted by the sight of a plethora of exotic flora. The smell of fresh air invigorated me as I carefully paced the jungle paths, trying not to destroy the natural beauty of the flora and fauna. Monochromatic hue of the foliage certainly decorated the jungle well.
The jungle fauna was no exception as a myriad of insects, birds and animals added colour, sound and sight to the pristine surroundings. It was truly a walkabout classroom for me.
As the sun stood high at noon, I stopped by a small stream and took a rest. Then something truly interesting caught my eye. It was a damselfly, taking a breather on a rock. The green, slim bodied creature was amazingly graceful as it exhibited its charm.
Damselflies have needlelike abdomens and are smaller and delicate. They are weaker fliers than their cousin, the dragonfly.
Damselflies have long, filmy and netlike wings. Their wings are generally smaller but they have stunningly vivid colours and more intense. They hold their wings vertically and together at rest rather than horizontally and apart. The four wings are almost identical in size and shape. This beauty have larger eyes and are widely separated compared to the dragonfly.
It was truly a memorable day for me to be able to meet this astonishing beauty as they are difficult to be found unlike dragonflies.
