PIECES OF THE PAST
PART 2
What made me sulk and reminisce?

It’s the typical girl meets boy, girl likes boy, girl and boy like each other, girl and boy go into a relationship. Girl and boy have it good for a while, boy promises on forever, and girl promises back, boy starts acting distant and cold, girl notices, confronts boy about it, boy reassures her, calms her nerves, boy says all is fine; girl feels great, girl believes boy.

Things start to look up again for girl and boy, in fact, they appear to be closer than ever, girl is happy, content; boy forces himself to be. Boy wonders how long he can keep up with this charade, but, every time girl wants to address issues, boy says things like: “I love you”, “you mean the world to me”, “you’re my last bus stop”, “I’m at my best with you”, “you help me be a better man” “I want to spend the rest of my life with you” “you make me feel at home” and so on, all to pacify girl. Sadly, girl always let things go and believes everything he says. Because girl loves him.

A good while passes then boy starts acting up again.
Girl: What’s wrong?
Boy: (acts as though no one spoke)
Girl: (starts to internalize his inability to communicate effectively, then turn to self-blame) What did I do this time? Did I offend you?
Boy: (grunts)
Girl: Answer me
Boy: (unbothered)
Girl: (paces for a moment, pauses then continued) I’m done. I’m tired. This back and forth isn’t working for me anymore. Today we are good, tomorrow feels like Armageddon!
Boy: (with immediate alacrity) Don’t baby, please don’t. I need you. Don’t leave me. You know I love you. How can I be without you? I promise to do better. I am sorry.
Girl: It took you the mention of a break up to speak to me? You are a joke!
Boy: (becomes dramatic and kneels down, start to plead insistently)
Girl: (pays no attention to him, tired of the emotional turmoil, gathers her belongings to bounce)
Boy: (tries to stop her. Girl wasn’t having it and Girl left)

A month passes, and, girl hasn’t heard from boy. Boy has made zero effort to communicate with girl. Girl feels even more terrible as it breaks even more. Girl remembers she didn’t take some of her essentials from boy’s place. Girl knows she can’t avoid running into boy, but girl is in no mood to hold a conversation with boy, so, girl goes to boy’s place with a friend.
Girl: (knocks on the door)
NO ANSWER
Girl: (knocks again)
NO ANSWER
Girl’s friend: (knocks, this time twice as hard)
NO ANSWER
Girl: (bends the door handle and realizes its open)
Girl’s friend: Geronimo! Would you look at that!
(They giggle)
Girl: You’d wait here. I’ll quickly run up and get my stuff. Its already in a bag.
Girl’s friend: Sure I shouldn’t come with? Isn’t it strange he left the door unlocked?
Girl: Yeah, I’m sure. He doesn’t come close to being security conscious.
Girl’s friend: You have two minutes. If I don’t see you in two, I’m coming up!
Girl felt loved, broke into a broad smile as she started for the room.

Girl made it to the room, sighs a relief as she looked around and couldn’t see boy. Although, girl could hear the shower running, which means boy’s in there. Girl grabs her bag, headed to the door but stopped as she saw boy and a new girl walk out of the shower.
Girl froze, so did boy and new girl. In girls frozen state, her brain wandered as to where she must have seen new girl, for the face holds heavy familiarity for it to just be random. Aha! She remembers and it looked as though her eyes lit up with her discovery.
New girl is the lady from church. Whom girl saw flirt with boy. Girl expressed her concerns to boy, and boy gave assurance, time and time again. Its nothing to worry about, he said. I will handle it, he said. She isn’t the one I want, you are, he said.
Boy tried to speak as girl’s friend barged in which made him swallow his words. Girl’s friend took girl’s bag, held her by her hand as they walked away.
Boy: (behind them) please wait!
Girl’s friend: (absolutely livid, yelled) Enough! You have done more than enough!
Girl: (finally gets herself, taps her friend gently) Its okay. Lets go.
