Unfathomable Attachments (part 5)
“Hello, dad.” I greet him. “Honey, I’ll fly to the city this Saturday. Your grandpa wants to meet. We could meet before I fly back home.” Great! I just realize, I haven’t talk to them since the last time I call mom. “Anyway how was your first day?” He asks in addition to his notice. “It was great dad. We just have lectures, and I’m doing a review just so I won’t forget.” With that I know my father is smiling to wherever he is. He likes it when I give attention to study. “Good then, but don’t give all your time on study. Make sure to make some friends.”
This is something he can’t force me to do. I am used to being alone. I think I don’t need a friend. A little help from others is indeed a good thing. I do seek help and do conversation with others but building rapport isn’t my thing. “Okay dad.” I confirm just so we won’t argue. “Then see you on Sunday.” He will be in the city by Saturday afternoon but he will see me by Sunday. I think he will stay in one of the hotels here.
The next day, I jump out of bed still sleepy. “Good morning!” I gaze at him. He is wearing our school uniform and is putting my things in my bag. I shake my head, smiling while I walk to the bathroom. “Um, good morning!” I said before entering the bathroom. He is acting like it’s his first day of school.
After drying my hair and wearing my uniforms, I sit on the dining table to have my breakfast which he prepared. It’s an oatmeal with fruits like banana and berries. While eating, I take a look at my messenger. A message from Kenneth have I received. I read them. It was sent a week ago.
“Hey girl! Who is this GG? Is he your boyfriend?” I almost choke when I read the message. How did he know about GG? I look at GG who is on his laptop. I type my reply. “Just someone I know, why?” He’s online, and is quick to read my message. “Yeah, I know. He told me the same.” Wait – GG told him the same? “You guys chat?” He reads my message. “Yeah. I accepted his request when I saw him tagging you from a post.” A post?
I hurriedly log in my Facebook account. Not caring about the notifications, I look at my time line. There I see – GG uploaded my pictures which he took when we had a tour in the campus. His caption is what annoys me – Sun can’t compare to the brightness of your smile. I read the comments. The comment that annoys me more is: I’m more interested with the reason behind those smiles from Kenneth. I glared at GG. He is puzzled. “What?” I sigh. “Don’t upload my pictures without letting me know.” I try to calm down.
He walks to me and look at my phone screen. “Ah, this. I’m sorry.” He acted so sad. I am a little guilty. “It’s fine. Just don’t do it again. People don’t usually see me smile. They may find it weird.” A curve forms at the edge of his lips. “So, I’m the only one who often see you smile?” I am caught off guard. “Who smiles?” I quickly go to grab my bag at the bed. “Let’s go, before it’s late.” I hear him chuckles and follows me.
