The Road to Grace Part 6
Shawn cracked the front door and peeked inside, a jolt running through him as he saw a large body on the couch but was quickly relieved at the gurgling snores.
But where was his dad...
Hopefully also passed out. Surely if he wasn't he would've heard a sign by now.
He left the door cracked as he walked down the creaky wooden stairs.
"Come on. Be quiet they're passed out."
Kelsey nodded, sliding out of her seat and grabbing her backpack out of the back of the truck, following Shawn through crunching gravel to the three steps leading up to a small landing.
Shawn poked his head in the door to double check when he felt Kelsey bump into the back of him, sending the door flying open and nearly toppling him.
He dared not breathe as he looked towards the couch but thankfully Deanna didn't move.
He looked back to Kelsey where she whispered, "sorry."
If he wasn't so on edge about reaching the far end of the trailer to his room he would've found this comical.

He merely shook his head and motioned for her to follow him through the living room hoping she didn't pay too much attention to the clutter lining the tobacco stained walls.
The trip down the hallway to the far left of the house was the longest he had to endure; he pushed his door open and stepped aside as Kelsey walked in.
He immediately shut his door and flipped the lock before he could release his paralyzed lungs.
"Sorry this isn't the Hilton but... I did warn you.
"It's ok... I'll settle for motel 6."
"Very funny."
"Just joking," said Kelsey, looking around the small room that was considerably less cluttered than what they just trailed through.
"Excuse the mess-in here, not all...yeah I kind of didn't expect company."
"I'm sorry..."
"Not your fault. I understand. Shit happens."
Shawn pulled his keys out of his pocket and placed them on the dresser, glancing back to Kelsey who had set her backpack at the foot of the bed.
"Go ahead, sit down. Wanna watch a movie?"
"Sure."
"What you like to watch? I got Netflix." Said Shawn as he grabbed the remote and turned on his tube style tv across the room from the bed sitting on an old square stand.
"It doesn't matter," said Kelsey as she sat at the foot of his soft full size bed.
He backed up to sit a few feet away from her, close to his floppy pillows folded under his blue thick comforter.
"Why's everything my decision?"
"It's your house. I'm just a drifter remember?"
"Well drifter, I started watching this DC show. You like that stuff."
"Yeah."
"Liar. You're all Kardashian and bachelorette kind of person."
Kelsey giggled softly, "Am not."
"Chick flicks?"
"I'm a girl duh but...I won't torture you with that stuff right now."
"This is... romantic...ish."
"Oh...yeah, I'm sure."
"You'll see..." He found himself staring in her direction far more than the TV.
"I'm a closet nerd. Popular girls don't watch this stuff so...no telling."
"Well... maybe if you come up this way instead of sitting on the edge like you're about to bail this motel 6." Said Shawn, no idea where his courage was coming from; he laid back up against the wall and was shocked when he didn't hear a smart comeback and saw her moving up his way closer and closer.
"Good enough?" Kelsey said as she scooted right up against his side and leaned her back up against the wall.
Shawn nodded, the warmth of her body gently by his side giving him another reason to not pay attention to the TV.
"I really appreciate you coming to get my sorry butt so late and... I was acting so weirded out-don't shake your head I know I was... I feel better now...safe you know."
"Well... you're welcome I guess."
"Don't be ashamed of where you live. It's not who you are. You're a good guy. You'll be something one day...far from your dad and step mom."
He shook his head and held back a laugh, "That church has you full of all kinds of "faith"."
"You say that like it's a bad thing. It's actually good to have faith in things."
"Like what?"
"Like... yourself. You don't give yourself enough credit."
"And for what? Good job Shawn on being a worthless high school drop out."
"You don't get it. It's your heart dummy." She poked her index finger into his chest, "You might not see it but I do."
"You're just all emotional cause of your problems at home."
"... That's not it at all. I like spending time with you."
Shawn grabbed onto her wrist and stretched her arm out, despite her effort to pull away.
"What's this?"
"Nothing."
His eyes darted from her wrist up to her elbow, the dark bruises igniting heat up his chest and into his face.
"Your mom?"
She finally pulled out of his grip and folded her arms across her chest firmly.
"I...told you...we fought."
"She doesn't have the right to do that. Look, I should know. My dad and psycho bitch... I'm their anger release but it doesn't make it right."
"I... I just want to get accepted to college where all of this will be a memory... I deserve some of it..."
"Shut the fuck up. Do you hear yourself?"
"I'm not-"
"Hell no. I'm not even going to let you continue your crap. You're too smart to look down on yourself because some bully thinks you're not perfect enough. I don't care if she is your mom..."
Shawn jumped as she turned and threw her face into his chest, her small dainty hands gripping his shoulders.
Slowly he placed a hand on her back, "I don't want to go back."
"... I'd like to tell you that you don't have to but you will. It's not forever though. You'll be graduating before you know it."
She pulled back wiping at her eyes as she laid her head on the wall.
"My crazy family doesn't make you want to not talk to me?"
"Really? If anyone's gonna want to stop talking it's you. You'll start dating a jealous football captain or something and that'll be the end."
"The guys at school are jerks. You can't put ten of them together and make one decent human being."
"Not gonna disagree there. People just suck in general not just at school."
"Well that's a first. You disagree with everything I say."
Shawns shoulders started to squirm as her hand landed above his knee, "Not everything."
"Oh? Prime example."
"Yeah ok...got me there."
Good God was she going to keep her hand there forever?!
"I can sleep on the floor you can have the bed."
"No. Don't let me kick you out of your own bed."
"It's okay..."
Maybe if he slid his hand on top of hers she would retract...
He looked to her as his hand covered hers but she didn't move away; her eyes even met his as she flipped her hand over and her skinny fingers laced between his.
"This is why I knew you were the person to...come for a rescue mission. You showed right up, pretty much no questions asked...my friends wouldn't have done that...they probably would've called my mom."
"Doesn't sound like friends to me."
"...yeah... you're probably right...you see what I was talking about when I brought up fate? 'Cause if I wouldn't have met you at the game that night who knows what would've happened to me tonight."
"You're not telling me the whole story about your home life are you?"
"...Well, no...it would take a long time to tell you all of it."
"Does she...do you get hit alot?"
She shrugged, "I'm just ready to get out of there."
"... You could always sneak over here every night." Shawn laughed softly.
"Yeah I can see that happening. You'd be sick of me in no time."
"Doubt that....just depends on... nevermind..."
"What?"
"Nothing watch the show."
"Tell me!" She gripped his hand tighter until he looked back at her.
"...Depends on...if you let me kiss you."
Her lips pressed together in a false attempt to look surprised.
"Hm... I don't know... I can only answer that if I knew what it was like."
Her grip tightened once again on his hand as he leaned over slowly, waiting for her to demand him to stop.
But she closed her eyes as he got within inches of her.
He planted a quick peck and peered to see if she had a disgusted look on her face or not.
She opened her eyes to peer into his before she leaned forward this time and met his lips firmly.
Electricity run down his neck as her soft lips stayed glued to his.
His hand gravitated towards her hip; he peeked to see her eyes still closed, engrossed in their lip lock.
She moved forward and Shawn pulled her down on top of him, easing onto his back.
A groan escaped his throat as she sit on his lap.
He felt a small giggle shake her and he gripped his hands on both sides of her hips.
"I'm sorry," he said, breaking their kiss.
"What?Why?"
"I...this... I don't know..."
She tightened her knees at his sides, leaning down to kiss his neck.
He ran his hand through her hair, pulling her lips back to his; he squirmed with her on his lap until he pulled his comforter down.
"Oh my God." Escaped his lips as she took her shirt off and threw it aside then wiggled out of her pants.
"Oh hush...and get comfy."
"Yes ma'am... I'll try."
He watched her closely as she ran her hands up his shirt, touching his bare chest.
She arched above him as her hands followed each step it took to shed his own clothes.
He forced his lips closed to "hush" as she had demanded as she slid down onto his lap but had to kiss her fiercely as he slid into her.
His hands gripped her sides as she rocked on top of him.
"Damn," he finally said no longer able to keep quiet.
"What? Am I not doing ok."
"No, that's not it at all. But...you lay down."
They flipped positions where he kissed down her stomach then gripped onto her shoulders as he delve deeper, finding energy to move faster as her legs wrapped around him.
"My God," he fell against her, his chest heaving on her bare breast, his arms wrapping around her back wanting to be closer as if inside her wasn't enough.
"Wouldn't you want this every night?" She said.
"...Don't tease me. I'll kidnap you...now... I know you didn't get time to get off... I'm going down. You just hike those sexy legs and enjoy."
