The Woman Of Dust {part 1}
The Woman Of Dust
Rick
It had been almost a year since Samara had left me, moving on with another guy I don’t know. I had tried my best to bring her back into my life again ,constantly begging before her and even cajoling her to come back and give ourselves a second chance. But every single effort of mine to bring back the already-left ship into the shore of my heart had been in vain. As a result, I was drawn into utter darkness and misery. Passing my days in and out in constant agony and anguish and a momentary relief offered by the bottles of whisky. And the cycle never seemed to come to an end. It was good that my parents were not living with me. Because I had already left them while shifting to the new town for a job which I was offered by one of the well- wishers of my family and also to leave behind the pain of losing my spark as well. But the new place, to my great disappointment failed to provide me with any sort of solace. The memories of my past town and lost love haunted me there to.
It was going all as such as it used to be. At the work, work and more work only to make myself busy enough to forget every single bit of past days of mirth and misery and at the night only drink, smoke and drink more, alone in my dark room, aloof from the world of living beings. The cycle of self-destruction had gotten the very best of me. Until THAT DAY……….
The clock showed 8 in the morning, and I was just getting ready for my office after cleaning my room. Last night’s hangover still buzzing in my head. Suddenly the doorbell rung and to my great surprise it was Rajat , one of my office colleagues , and sort of a best friend to me. Amongst like a thousand people in this new town it is only Rajat who knows everything about my broken strings with Samara. And it was only he who supported me during the first time I moved here. I was quite surprised to see him at my door step at this hour. So I gradually asked him after reciprocating good mornings with each other ( without even knowing what was so good about that morning), the purpose of his visit. Rajat with his gradual smirk said by teasing me “ Mr. Devdas , I’ve come here to take you to the place where you will be transformed into a real man. A place where I once went to bring out the real man which was lying latent inside me. Lets go, no more office today, we are going for a trip. A trip to Manhood.” I could not understand a single word he said maybe because of the hangover and the feeling of nausea caused by it or maybe because of the fact that it was none other than Rajat who was telling me to bunk office to take a trip, since Rajat had had been the best employee of that company for years. But as a matter of fact I had to bow down against the tenuous spirit of Rajat and had to get myself ready for the trip after sending my office a mail excusing food poisoning.
As it appeared to me that it was not only me and Rajat going on that trip , but late on I got to know that two more co- workers were also joing us. One was Debu , a middle aged man from the IT department and the other was Rajat’s school friend Sameer. Meeting them was to my surprise a very pleasant thing itself because they both were going through the same condition as I am. Sameer recently had his number 7th break up and Debu the middle aged MAN, had his divorce after finding that his wife was sleeping with his own cousin brother. What a trio of three emotional losers! Rajat might have thought.
The we hired was an Innova. It was Rajat who was driving it, since it was he only who knew where we were actually going and it was he only who took the responsibility of making the life of the three emotionally broken beings slightly better. All the way he was silent about where we were actually going , no matter how many times we asked him he remained silent about the destination only repeatedly chanting one thing to answer us – “ I am taking you three boys to the furnace of Manhood . where real men are made.” So it was definitely of no point asking him anything and I decided to pass my time by sleeping all through the journey , I was tired anyway by my all night long drinking and was also a bit weak due to the hangover caused by it.
My sleep was disturbed by a sudden jolt and I woke up. I looked outside of the car window and had found that it was almost pitch dark outside and the clock inside of the car showed us it was half past six. Rajat shouted at the top of his voice “ what the hell are you three bastards still doing inside of the car! Get off !”We did as we were told. After getting off that car I asked Rajat about the place he had brought us all. And Rajat told us all to follow him silently. Again we did as told. We went through a dusty path covered with cow dung and straws. It was almost pitch dark but we had our cell phone torches so we treaded along the way one before another , following Rajat’s lead ....
