Title: I chose the Truth.
Hari was an unlucky guy in his early 30s. Whole his life up till now he had been a colossal failure. Right from his childhood he didn't fit very well with almost everyone outside his immediate family.
He was more of a daydreamer who preferred his own company, over being made to mingle with his classmates in his school. He had the freedom of doing whatever he wanted during his entire day, over being made to sit through all the long lectures of his school. All of this felt like an ordeal to him, which is why he had never attended most of the lectures in his school.
Many times he'd bunk his school with an excuse of illness. Many other times he'd just embark on a long stroll, somewhere around his town, be it the few museums of his town, various parks & gardens, a local library, or few nearby tourist attractions. Hari also used to frequent Cinema Halls & restaurants, all alone, without needing anyone's company.
Being stared at suspiciously by others, whenever he used to visit all the above public places, wasn't uncommon for Hari. Most of his town folks treated him like an outsider, even though he had lived much of his life in that town. To most of his teachers & classmates he had a reputation of being a weirdo, owing to his erratic behavior.
Whenever it became utmost necessary for him to be present at his school, he never bothered any of his classmates, or irritated his teachers. Then also many times he used to be picked upon by many of his classmates, and as he grew up few of his teachers used to pass sarcastic remarks on him. Yet, he kept on enduring all of his up till his 12th grade. Many times, when he became bereft of any choices, he had to be engaged in physical fights with his classmates, for protecting himself. This is why he was one of the biggest introverts in his town, who didn't have many friends.
While most of the students would eventually choose at least one teacher for their inspiration, as they grew old, towards whom they'd show flattery, for Hari no such teachers existed. Because he believed a man himself is his best teacher in his life, more than any other.
He was by no means a brilliant, or even an average student. He barely knew his subjects, which allowed him to poorly pass his grades by a thin margin. He had no other special talents such as sports. He wasn't even creative.
Though, three traits which were inherent in Hari right from his childhood were - first, the immediate urge to start questioning others, whenever he felt injustice having been committed on himself and others around him, by someone. The other trait being giving his opponents a taste of bitter truth, which would always offend them, and make them blush. And lastly, Hari had the heart of a nurse or a midwife, who simply wanted to help the ones in dire need, without gaining anything in return.
For Hari, helping someone wasn't a two-way trade or a deal of some kind, in which at least one or more transactions are always mandatory. He was a true altruist who believed in only giving more & more to others, in sharing more & more with others, without demanding anything in return. Hari's tastes were simple. He didn't have any special needs or wants. He was happy with what he had in life. If Florence Nightingale would've been reincarnated again, she would've definitely been born as Hari.
Hari's birth was in a financially humble background. His parents were daily wage earners, who had mostly struggled to earn their livelihood, and nurture their kids. The other being Hari's elder sister who was married and well settled with a certain man, who even helped Hari's family financially.
After he passed from his school; Hari never graduated because he disliked his college, and most of his professors. With no degree in hand left Hari with very limited employment opportunities, so he kept swinging from one petty jobs to others, in all of which he kept on quarreling with his employers, all of whom made him & thousands of other workers work for 12 hours a day for entire week, with no minimum wage & no fixed weekly offs. He kept on exposing these greedy employers as far his voice would reach.
Though between all such jobs; Hari had briefly found a solace of ten months when he was hired for some small organization in his town, by his then manager called Lakshmi who was five to six years younger than him. From the very first day at that organization; Hari was infatuated by Lakshmi. She was always courteous with Hari, and never behaved like a boss who had an attitude.
For Hari, the arrival of Lakshmi in his life, felt like the arrival of a desert Angel from an Oasis, who would make one drink a glass of...
