Falling
My foot slipped just a little bit before completely hanging over the edge. My other foot was planted firmly on the edge of the building I was standing on. No one would care, I thought, if I just released my other foot. I put my foot back. There was no one below me as I stood six stories above. I turned back to my friends still laughing behind me.
“There,” I began, “I’ve proved I’m not a wimp. Now I’d like to see you all do the same, like you said you’ve done many times.”
Their laughter just enlarged. Gaden, the tallest, stood up from the floor laughing hysterically.
“You actually thought we’d do that?!” He said, still having to muffle his laughs in between words. “You’re just as gullible as I thought! Sure, you might not be a wimp, but that doesn’t stop you from being a fool!”
I froze. My own friends, the only people I had left, had become what we had sworn not to become. My legs shook.
“Come down from there!” Jake yelled as he leaned on the edge. “You’re gonna kill yerself!”
My lips shook and my legs wobbled, but one word was pouring throughout my head, in and out. Why. Why would they do this? Our promise, our lives, they almost killed me. But maybe that was a good thing, after seeing their true selves.
Gaden and Hunter, twins, walked over to me.
Hunter yelled, “Get down!”
While Gaten tryed to pull me down, but my legs stayed still and firm on that edge.
A silent tear fell down my face as I whispered, “I’ll get down.” Taking one last look at their faces before releasing. My arms went backwards and my legs fell soon toward the street below..
