while old friends met, ice melts- part 1
Nandini was in the market when she felt a chill in the air and noticed the sky darkening with heavy clouds. She realized that it might rain soon, and she needed to head home immediately to avoid getting stuck in a downpour. In a hurry, she flagged down an autorickshaw and started her journey home. As the autorickshaw made its way through the bustling streets, the first few drops of rain began to fall. After about a kilometer, the rain intensified, turning into a torrential downpour.
The rain was so heavy that visibility dropped drastically, and it became difficult for the autorickshaw driver to continue. He turned to Nandini and said, "Madam, I can't drive in this rain. It's impossible to see anything, and the roads are flooding." Nandini, understanding the driver's predicament, nodded and paid him. She quickly got out and took shelter under a large tree nearby, but the rain was relentless, and soon she was completely soaked.
As she stood there, shivering and wet, she noticed a car repeatedly honking nearby. She ignored it at first, thinking it was just another driver frustrated with the weather. However, the honking persisted. Annoyed and curious, she finally looked towards the car. The driver stepped out and started walking towards her. As he came closer, she recognized him through the sheets of rain—it was her childhood friend, Abhi.
"Nandini! What are you doing out here in this weather?" Abhi shouted over the roar of the rain. "Quick, come to the car! I'll drop you home."
Nandini, relieved to see a familiar face, ran with him to the car. They both got in, but by then, Abhi was also drenched. He turned on the heater and handed her a towel from the back seat. "Tell me, where should I drop you?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.
"Run about 10 kilometers, and then you'll see a building named Magenta. You can drop me there," Nandini replied, grateful for the warmth of the car and Abhi's presence. As Abhi started driving, the rain pounded against the car, but the interior felt like a safe haven.
Nandini looked at Abhi, curiosity and nostalgia in her eyes. "By the way, tell me, where have you been all these years? No calls, no messages, nothing."
Abhi glanced at her and smiled wistfully. "Hey, I've been around. You know my house is 80 kilometers from here. I don't usually come to this side of town. Today, I came to see my aunt; she's unwell."
The familiarity and ease between them made the conversation flow naturally. They reminisced about their childhood, shared laughter, and caught up on each other's lives. The car was filled with the warmth of old memories and the rekindling of a long-lost friendship.
Before they knew it, they had reached Magenta. Abhi pulled up to the building and parked the car. "Here we are," he said, turning to her with a smile. "Take care, Nandini. Let's not lose touch again."
Nandini smiled back, feeling a sense of contentment.
