[the toughest journey: life is like a wheel]
[a #writco.in story series]

Troy, a bright fourth-grader, lived in Florida with his mother, Theresa. His father, Donald, worked in South Africa, and the family was proud of Troy's intelligence. In December 1986, Theresa decided to visit Donald in South Africa, and they planned a trip to Kruger National Park. They arrived in Nelspruit, where Donald sent a driver to pick them up. Troy was excited to see his father and enjoyed their time together.

Their trip to Kruger National Park was exciting, and they saw various animals and trees. Troy was fascinated by a cheetah they spotted, and they took pictures. After a wonderful time at the park, they returned to Donald's house. Unfortunately, their return flight experienced technical issues and crashed, leaving Theresa severely injured and seventy-two people dead. Troy was unharmed, but Donald was devastated by the news.

Donald visited Theresa in the hospital, where she had undergone leg amputations. He was overcome with grief and relief that Troy was safe. The doctor informed him that Theresa's condition was critical, and they would transfer her to Nelspruit hospital if necessary. Donald took Troy to get checked, and they returned to Nelspruit, where Troy struggled with the absence of his mother.

Donald met a woman named Lorraine and divorced Theresa to marry her, unaware of Lorraine's true nature. After the wedding, Lorraine mistreated Troy, forcing him to do household chores and withholding food. Troy ran away from home, heartbroken and seeking escape from his difficult situation.
