Pick your Poison-Chapter 45: Changed
Chapter 45: Changed
Meera
Meera closed the baby's bedroom door without making a sound and tiptoed down the passageway. The good thing was that she hadn't seen Brad since he returned home with clothes for her and some extra groceries. It was good because it meant that she didn't have to find small topic conversations. The bad thing was that he'd left again afterwards with the reason of trying to locate Dino and still found nothing.
Where on earth was he? He had to be in Johannesburg, that was obvious. He'd never leave without her but where-was-he? Nothing good came out of today but Brad did say that he had some of his guys looking out for Dino's boys. If they could find just one of them, they could get a way to contact Dino and baam, problem solved. But none of that was happening. At least not for today.
So she'd spent the afternoon cooking up dinner and adding some extra dessert to the meal as an attempt to kill time. Tara helped with that though since majority of the day went mostly with the baby-feeding, changing, playing. And she'd finally got to watch the news for herself. Their kidnapping was a hot scandal, almost every news update involved the four of them. The beyond freaky thing was that police had gotten anonymous information that their kidnapping was fake and there was a possibility that they were hiding out at some abandoned beach house in Cape Town.
She'd watched the break-in and the searching but her sister and Caleb were practically invisible. Okay, fair enough, the property was huge, enormous but how many hiding places could that house hold. Meera had seen the footages, polices were everywhere. Ziesha and Caleb could not have been inside. Either they got word that the police was coming or they already had some sort of plan b incase that happened. And the most important question of it all was who tipped them off?
She still had no idea how those men found her back at the apartment and she could bet her life that it was the same person that told on Caleb and Ziesha. Someone knew about their plan and that someone was out to get them. If it wasn't for Brad Wyatt, Meera would most probably be dead by now and she knew it. There was no way in hell she would have survived been taken by those horrible men.
The room Brad occupied was half open, allowing her to peek inside. He'd returned back about an hour ago but didn't stop to chat. He didn't even check up on Tara which had Meera wondering if she was cramping his lifestyle.
"Tara's asleep." Meera welcomed herself into his room with the aim to find out if he'd heard anything about Dino but immediately wished she hadn't. Brad stood sideways facing the mirror, a towel pressed against his shoulder. All she saw was red. "Err, are you okay?"
He moaned softly. "I'm fine." "How did your stab open?" She was aware that he'd gotten a stab to his shoulder trying to save her life but this morning it seemed fine beneath a bandage. Meera didn't really know how deep it was until now. "It never was closed," he said in an annoyed tone, "But it stopped bleeding until I scraped it at the garage...it's fine, it was way worse before you came in. Just gotta apply some pressure on it to stop the bleeding."
She could tell that he was in pain yet pretending not to be. It was okay, she wanted to tell him, everyone feels hurt. Her eye caught the antiseptic liquid across the room on the dressing table. Should she help? Meera had two minds. He could take it the wrong way but...this guy saved your life more than once. That was the kindness within her speaking. Her brain told her to walk away.
"I could clean it up for you?" she said hesitantly, then added, "if you...
