25th June ,2009, 7:30 a.m. ,Kolkata ,India : Just any other ordinary school day for a 9 year old kid like me. Since I was in the afternoon shift inevitable as it can be,I used to wake up a little late in the morning. I remember my mom snatching away the blanket over me ,to which I used to cling on as a tantrum or an as an excuse to not wake up and as unusual scenario the same thing happened that day as well. Dad used to switch on the television and tuned in to English news channels as NDTV ,BBC etc. What I didn't realise or was unaware of was that it was not any other usual day ,as the world supposedly lost the greatest entertainer in the world history the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson. Due to lack of technology and media advanced society back then or maybe most specifically since I belong to a South Asian family where Western music ,art and culture was something which our family were never accustomed with and all I knew about Michael Jackson back then as a kid was that he was a pro Break Dancer and was famous for something called “moonwalk”.( unaware of the fact back then that such a smooth dance move it was)So what I remember waking up to was to see the news which said “King of Pop is dead” showing a man with apparently pale white skin ,suited in formals wearing Ray Ban sunglasses and being guarded by his bodyguard with an umbrella.
Since I wasn’t much aware of who he was, I didn’t take much interest either in having a look at the news (something which I definitely regret now).Also Internet connectivity was not so much advanced or available and since we had a limited access of Internet facility that too with poor connectivity .I still somehow got down to the computer to research what Michael Jackson was all about.
