Few days ago I went to meet my girlfriend at perk circus, Kolkata. It was my last place of job posting. But this time going there was different as lockdown is prevailing all over India. Restrictions in traveling by trains, flights though buses are with good numbers. Only one Covid special train is running from my place to Kolkata. But at the time of booking tickets need to fill up the destination with contact number. So it was not possible for me to travel by train.
After five months we met. It was very much needed. As our relationship has been simply denied by both the families. We thought of leaving home in the last days of February but the arrival of corona just left things spoiled. Waited for days now have passed months. Mentally she is becoming weaker. I fear if anything fatal she chooses. So I decided to give a slight mental support and went to meet her.
At 11 p.m. my bus for Kolkata came. I was relaxed to see that it was not full . Other passengers carried mask sanitizer frequently sanitizing hands. Some wore helmet type mask. I wondered how the world has changed so fast. No one even imagined this. How quickly time changes I noticed very quickly. I noticed one more thing no one likes to compromise with his or her life if the person has that much resources to afford.
Around 6.30 a.m. I reached at the bus stop Dharmatala, Kolkata where all the buses are parked. All the hotels were closed for the pandemic covid. Before 11 a.m it was impossible for her to meet so I looked for a place to sit down and wait for hours and hours. I knew there is a beautiful field surrounding a Martyr's Monument so I was not much tensed. I went there and sat down under a tree. luckily that day a beautiful breeze welcomed me through out the time. I was waiting for the time starring at the monument. It was erected in 1828 in memory of Major general Sir David Ochterlony commander of the British Est India Company to commemorate both his successful defense of Delhi against the Marathas in 1804 and the victory of the East India Company's armed forces over Gorkhaa in the Anglo-Nepalese War.
I was happy with beautiful breeze fields grass and looking at people's activities. I was happy getting freshed with a bottle of water and having a cup of tea. Yes I was worried to have the tea but when no options are left you can't choose. Finally I got her telephone and left the place to meet her. As all the parks restaurants temples were closed so went to her students home. It was in perk circus. The path to her room was narrow and thickly populated and unhealthy. She used to say she didn't like the place but goes there to teach only to have a relief for a while from parents. She was changed . Her eyes are tired of shedding tears. She has no strength to stand. Just a hope is there to support. She asked where I stayed where was the hotel. She cried when came to know that I was waiting sitting under a tree from morning. She told PLEASE LEAVE ME STILL YOU HAVE TIME. YOU CAN GO. LET ME SUFFER WITH MY PROBLEMS. These words still haunt me. She is the purest girl and well mannered girl I ever met. I feel guilty for her miserable life. I can see her face so dull so numb. I knew she has been skipping her meals so I forced her to have lunch with me. We both don't like eating in a strangers house still we did. The day we talked less and cried more. But she can never tolerate my tears so I generally don't cry infront of her. Time had come to leave. When I was about to leave she told me to wear mask and sanitize hands properly. Love, Smiles and Tears all had in a day. I don't know what's waiting next but for the day God was with us.
