Kindness or stupidity?
The bus stop was crowded mostly with Tamilians and few Nigerians. I stood in the middle of the bustling crowd and scanned for the bus B12 that would take me to a nearby city with some decent bars to drink in and probably spend my weekend. The bus stop wasn't a pleasant place to be spending time at. With swarm of flies attacking and strong smell of ammonia that came from the nearby urinals gave me a headache. Further kindling my desperation for a drink.
I boarded the bus B12 ,by the time the bus was half occupied. I consciously decided to take the last seat. A man who was already an occupant of one of the end of the seat slid himself towards my end, next to me and pulled out a worn out diary from the breast pocket of his shirt. "Excuse me!" He said "I need to make an urgent call! Would you mind lending your phone for a minute? It's urgent!" He said. He looked decent to me. " I'm sorry! But I'm out of balance." I told him, which was the truth. " I can recharge it for you." He pleaded. I had no reason to doubt him, he looked decent and had boarded the bus before I did. Soon as I handed him my phone and he bolted out of the bus, I waited for a couple of minutes before it dawned upon me that I'd been robbed. One of the most humble looking man had robbed me. I got of the bus and frantically started looking for him. Fuck I'd not even registered his face and everybody looked the same. That evening I lamented with few extra shots of whiskey, after all I deserved it for being stupidly kind, for being betrayed by the humanity yet again.
