THE BRAMBLE BUSH

🦄

Let me start off saying Brother Simon is the Greatest Man to ever Live.

Yes, he's a remarkable Soul, and saved my Life many times!

I remember the very first time he actually approached and talked to me.

I was Foraging for Berries in a Bramble Bush, and it was almost out of Season. The Berries were Plump, and very Juicy. I was actually eating them as I picked, and was not watching the beard. It became twisted and then tied into the Bush itself.

I felt foolish struggling with this issue, of course. A twenty some year old man, with his long Nazarene Beard in Mortal Combat with a Berry Bush. The Juices were flying every which way.

(chuckle 🤭)

And my White Robes were now Sky Blue. I kicked off my Sandles in a huff, and one of them hit ... you guessed it!

"Young Brother," he called. "What is the meaning of this?"

It was Simon Himself. I'd already heard tell about his misadventures. I thought for sure. "I'm going to lose my head, in this Berry Bush!"

"Don't you know," Simon guffawed, "Beard, and Bush, don't Mesh!" He continued as he struggled to help me forth. "Well," he said with a strain tugging and grunting, "until now!"

Finally, we resolved to cut me forth from its Talons. I lost a significant amount of my under-beard, but thank God, it wasn't immediately noticable. I begged Him tell no one, for it is a Shameful thing for a Nazarene to lose the Beard.

He laughed. "Don't worry my Friend," as he patted my shoulder and edged me to his side." "Your secret is safe with me!"

That's how we first met, and I was really taken in with His Character. I'd never met anyone with more Charisma. He, of course, already knew about my Parent's capture and subsequent Martyrdom.

He watched from afar their Crucifixion, held by several Roman Centurions. Marked for Death Himself, he escaped by Divine Decree into the Night, which was his recurring manner to avoid the stake.

We always marveled.

His Sword too, was always at the Ready; and many Soldiers became so fearful, that even with the Emperor's demand for His head, they sought not that conflict.

He brushed off my hairs. "I always knew my Sword had a taste for blood," Simon smiled. "But a Barber, I thought not!"

"I am glad to give it a reprieve," I said, not so convincingly. I continued my stare at the Blade.

He had me join the ranks of his Militia, alongside Barabbas. We slew countless many without care or regret. Our Freedom was tantamount to anything else, and we sang David's Psalms to this Effect Proudly.

These were my Proudest, and Happiest Days of my Life. Yes, it's Fair to say Simon and Barabbas became my Brethren in Arms.

God used us in a Mighty way, and I looked not back once.

Until I first laid my Eyes on Him.

Alas, the Ninth Hour though Approaches. Parchment and Quill can thence wait, for another hour.
