Chapter 5. Reunion and breaking apart

Shan is standing in a subway train. she is going to see his family. finally she won big prize money so she decided to help her family to pay the debt. she might hate them but she still cares about them and her little sister the most. she is finally going to see them after a really long time.
Shan : hummm, so I am here. it's been 4 years since I saw my parents. I have no idea how they are gonna react but let's see.
Shan knocks the door, a woman comes to open the door.
Shan : hi, uhh. who are you? my parents used to live here.
The woman : the keens?
Shan : yeah, my father Paul keen, my mother Smayra keen and my sister Jenny Keen. where are they?
The woman : Jenny is dead my dear. she committed suicide last year. and Keens left after that.
Shan was in deep shock. she just froze there, she couldn't say or do anything.
Shan : but...... how .....when....
Shan fell on the ground.
The woman : hey, u... a... are you alright?
Shan : how did that happen? and no one bothered to tell me about it.
The woman : well, poor girl hung herself because your parents were a disaster to her and then the debt.
Shan : oh, so that asshole killed my sister and then came for me. I can never forgive these demons.
Shan starts crying.
Shan : my poor little sister, she couldn't even play on a swing in the garden, how could she hung herself. my Jenny.
Shan kept crying.
The woman got her inside the house and give her a glass of water.
The woman : your parents were so sorry after what happened. so they left this house and they said that they couldn't face you. so no one told you anything.
Shan : what difference does that make? my little sister is gone. (cries)
I came here, after 4 years thinking that may be we can start fresh. maybe we can forget everything and become a family again. but.,............
I can never forgive them.
Shan stroms out.
The woman : hey girl. stop. do you think you can go back all by yourself now?
Shan : don't worry about me. I will be fine.
Shan leaves.
Shan gets back in her town. and she goes to the bar, orders liquor and starts filling herself with it. she kept drinking untill everything was blur.
Tom was worried about her because Shan was gone all day. he tried to call her but she didn't pick up.
then he gets out to find her. and he does find her, wasted in the bar.
He picks her up and brings her to the apartment.
Tom : what is the matter Shan ? what happened to you? you went to see your family. You were so happy this morning and now look at you.
Tell me what happened.
Shan says nothing.
Tom : I am worried sick Shan. please tell me what happened ?
Shan starts crying.
Tom : (shoked) Hey Shan, what happened? you never cry. please tell me. now I am really worried.
Shan : Tom, they killed my sister.
they killed her. (crying)
Tom : WHAT? who killed her? Shan?
Shan : (crying) my parents.
Tom : (shoked) .,......................
Shan : they killed her.
Tom : why? 🥺
Shan : they were so terrible towards her, she killed herself. 😭
Tom : (speechless)
Tom just hugged her and Shan wept to sleep.
Next morning.
Tom : good morning my dear.
here is your breakfast. look today I cooked your favorite meat.
Shan : (waking up) you cooked?
Tom : yeah, spacialy for you. (smiles)
Shan : you don't have to do this.
Tom : of course I do. Shan we have been friends for 2 years. And all this time you took care of me. now it's my turn. ok now shut up and start eating.
Shan : no......
Tom : yes, you will.
Shan eats and tries to forget the pain.
but it's just too intense that she can't control her mind.
Shan : ok, you are getting late, you should go now.
Tom : it's ok. I don't have a real job. I can go whenever I want. and right now my best friend needs me so I am gonna stay here.
Shan : I am fine. seriously you should go.
Tom : you promise?
Shan : yeah, now go.
Tom leaves.
Shan tries to hold herself but fails. she breaks into tears. then she walks towards the bar again.
Tom gets home early to check on Shan and finds her lying on her bed.
Tom : how are you Shan ?
Shan doesn't reply.
Tom gets worried.
Tom : Shan please talk to me. you are the strongest person I have ever seen and seeing you breaking like this freaking me out. please talk to me. please say something.
Shan : Tom,............... my parents always fought with each other but I never cared because I had my sister. I was happy with just her. but now she is gone too. I am all alone now. (cries)
Tom : no you are not. you have me. I will never leave your side. I promise.
Shan : promise?
Tom : yeah.
Shan : ok. I will try my best. (tries to smile)
Tom : that's my girl.
both hugged.
