Chapter 3


*Monday afternoon*
Tricia knocked on her apartment door,she had been standing for almost thirty minutes waiting for her roommate to open the door.
She pressed the door bell again furiously,she had gotten tired of pressing the button and had taken to knocking violently,she thought of trying it again for caution sake.

"Hey, Tricia where did you go, haven't seen you for a few days now!"Nadia her neighbor beamed when she came out of her room, Tricia smiled tiredly at her .


"Went home to see my mom,she celebrated her birthday on Saturday"Tricia briefly explained and licked her dry lips.

"Oh wow!, happy to hear that,I didn't even hear when you drove in"Nadia said.


"How will you hear when your pop music is so loud that I heard it from outside the gate!"She said making a humph sound, rolling her bright brown eyes sharply.


"Ooow,yep!,I love it,you too ,you love it I know,let me help you get your roommate open the door,had her noise earlier, maybe she fell asleep or something"Nadia offered with her Ghanaian accent on air, she's a ghanian lady, simple and easy going,but party type.She loves everywhere hot and noisy that's her .


"Thanks sweetie,my fingers has turned pink,geeez!"Tricia examined her expensively polished nails to know if any of it has cut off,all Glory to God! None has!.

"Diana?!"Nadia started,she knocked hard on the door and called out to the being inside.

"I wonder what she's doing,this has never happened before, and she doesn't sleep off easily"Tricia is worried.It's normal to be angry at her for keeping her stranded in her own apartment,but she's more worried that her friend might be in some sort of danger .

Nadia almost fell inside the house when the door suddenly opened.She hitted her head on Diana's shoulder and she winced in pain.


"Nadia don't tell me you are disturbing me so I would give you another maggi cube!"Diana said removing her headphone which she had intentionally putted on to listen to a better music rather than the noise Nadia likes to play and also to avoid hearing her unending knocks on the door for her to give her maggi,she had done it three times today and this one is the fourth time,only she didn't know that her roommate has arrived,when she looked ahead to see her, she could do nothing but mope at her.


"Oh My God! Tricia am so sorry I didn't know it's you.......I'm so...."she clamped her mouth shut and went to take her bag from her.


"You will pay for this!"Tricia stumped past her when she took her bag.

"I know,I will make sure to be ready before hand"
She laughed and took strides after her ,she turned to wink at a smiling Nadia whom went in with them and closed the door behind her.

"Am famished Diana ,did you cook anything?!"Tricia didn't wait for an answer as she went in search of food in the kitchen.

Diana didn't say anything,she had cooked earlier even before she called to her that she's on her way back,she is going to see food.

"Didn't some girl eat at home?!,I mean you are coming from your mom's house Tricia you never cease to amaze me with your too much eating!"Nadia shouted after Tricia.

"That she eats too much is not my problem,my problem is how she manages to remain slim while I'm dieting just to maintain my shape"Diana said searching for her favorite channel on the television.

"That girl no matter how much I try,I never understand how to describe her"


"I heard that one Nadia,you guys don't have anything reasonable to do except gossip about me right?"Tricia said from behind them as she sat down on the dinning to enjoy her food.

"Please let's talk about something serious ladies,how's your mom's birthday Trish?"Diana said turning to look at her quizzically.

"Fine "She managed,Diana knew she would be mad at her for not following her to celebrate the birthday.


"Am sorry I didn't make it to your mom's birthday party,I was really caught up with something at home, please believe me I wouldn't have missed it for anything"she apologized.


"It's ok"Tricia said swallowing hard,she drank water and continued eating.

"What's the problem Tricia? You look terrible right now and I don't think it has anything to do with exhaustion"Nadia asked concerned.

"Am really fine guys believe me"when they still looked at her like morons,she gave up and told them about her brother.


"That's weird,I don't know of any man who doesn't have a woman to call his own,I mean the chemistry is there,it works on its own"Nadia said shrugging her shoulders.


"That's nothing to worry about, maybe he's still hanging on to make the right choice,and if you are worried about your mom wanting grand children,go get married and give her one"Diana ended the discussion as Tricia choked and Nadia laughed her heart out.



"Diana you are so mean like seriously!"Nadia couldn't control her laughter.


"But that's the truth and it's not funny"Diana mused , Tricia said nothing,she simply drank a full glass of water and took her food inside her room.


Diana knew that's anger, but she knows her very well and just how to get her out of the mood,she didn't go after her,she saw Nadia who is ready to leave out and shut their door,then sat comfortably to watch her tuned in channel, she will deal with Tricia later .




***. ***.  ***

"David,am not leaving here until you tell me why you have refused to get married!!!"Maggie shouted for the uptenth time to David who kept staring out of his office window.

He had been enjoying the view outside, and God knows he never expected her here,he had practically avoided her by staying away from the family house and bluntantly refused to answer her calls,but today nemesis seems to have gotten hold of him,she visited him right in his office and had been nagging , whining and shouting his office down.His workers will probably think he invited a mad woman over.

He has to find a way to get her leaving or end up shutting down his office for peace to reign.He turned briskly and said rolling his eyes;



"Mom,am not ready for marriage yet,let me enjoy my freedom please, can't even imagine myself dealing with women's nagging tongue at least not now!"



"You lie!, So what they are saying is true right?"Maggie asked furiously.



"And what are they saying?"He wanted to know where his mother is going with this.


"That you are gay!"

David's eyes popped out as he laughed uncontrollably,he thought he knew his mother very well,now he knows how wrong he has been.

"Jeez!...mom!..gosh!..I can't believe you said this!,mommy!!.. don't worry I will come to the house tomorrow,am a kinda busy right now, promise to come let's have a mother and son talk,I know you miss that"


"Oh you are even asking me out of your office!,no problem,I know what to do!"She rose and left his office, David mopped at the door for minutes before breaking into another laughter.

*Three weeks on*

"Hello mum!"Tricia said to the phone just the same second the receiver picked.


"Yes my princess,mum have missed you so much"Maggie said from the other end.


"I miss you too mum,and like I told you before,am coming to spend this long holiday with you"Tricia couldn't wait to announce.


"Oh wow!,my sweet girl,the long awaited holiday has come,am waiting patiently for you honey"Maggie replied.


"Ok mum, I will be home two days from now,might come with some of my friends to keep you company till the holiday is over"


"I would love that,then you would have to go because I need to get your room and two guest rooms ready for your arrival sweetie"


"Mmm,that's my mom, but it's still possible some other time two days is still far, anyways no problem, goodbye then"
Tricia said lightly biting her lower lip in amusement as she dropped the receiver.
