Gosh! I mean, I don't even know where to start. Look at my last picture. I'm outside on a shoot, the backdrop is serene. Sun rising high in the sky. And it's beautiful, picturesque Nigeria. I'm wearing my very expensive gold top and skirt. Never having a clue what's going on. Until I clicked on my cellphone when they called for lunch.
"US Aeronautics Research declare they find answers to Nuclear Fusion within the heart of the Sun."
BIG DEAL! I thought.
I mean, I'm in Nigeria, my government is corrupt as hell, and we're always looking for something to eat. Likewise, I give lots of my modelling money away just to keep my own family fed. It's CRAZY! So this to me was a complete joke.
Actually it pissed me off, because we could use the money here, what they're wasting so much of, over there.
I never even saw it coming.
I went home later that day with my mom and brother. She just finished making jollof rice and some fufu for her homemade okra soup (she's the best). I don't know what all she puts in there, but trust me, it's divine! And set out some sweet biscuits (you'd call them crackers) for dessert. My father of course passed away long ago, but we always turned his picture on the mantle to the dinner table whenever we ate so he could look up on us.
We'd just starting eating after our dinner prayer, when we heard gunshots just outside our house.
WTF
My mom ordered us to stay on the floor. She'd seen this kind of stuff long ago when she was a girl. But we were curious. We stood up.
There was no one shooting guns, or any guns present at all. It was the tires popping on all the cars.
Can you believe it!?
Like dominos all in a row. That's when we realized that the street itself was turning a bright red. Come to think of it, yeah it was MUCH hotter than normal. But we were used to that. I mean it was the middle of our winter so at first, it was welcomed.
Frog on a hot plate.
You don't know it's too late, until it is too late. The sun quickly expanded, filled the entire horizon completely; then contracted again. I saw the entire thing and just lost it and cried. I'd never seen anything like that before in my life; and apparently, I never will again. There was total and complete darkness. Again, with the frequent power outages, we were used to it. But this darkness was so real, it actually brought with it pain, and agony. I heard cries and wails all throughout my village. Some even. fell over dead, scared to death.
As for me I didn't know what was going on, so I felt around for my brother and mother. All I could feel was coldness and stiff hardness.
It took awhile for my mind to actually fathom what had happened to me, because it happened so quickly. But, the realization came within a blink of an eye, when the sun flashed for the very last time.
I was in front of our mirror; and behind me, I witnessed the Sun going Nova. I stood there looking on; flash frozen, and paralyzed.
