Self Care: The Samurai Way
We all know who the samurai are and how they take care of their physical and mental health because they have to fight for their country. We are all warriors today, even if we are not fighting for our country, but for ourselves and our personal development. Then how could you ignore the act of self-care? And why do you think that self-care is an act of selfishness? Self-care is as essential as water, air, and food. Whereas these things make us physically healthy, self-care makes us both mentally and physically healthy. This is the harsh truth of today's world: we don’t have the time or we don’t make any effort to have time for ourselves. But the question is why you did or I ignore our mental health? So let’s try to find out what self-care is. How many types of self-care are there? What steps do you need to take for self-care?
1. What Is Self Care? As per the Oxford Dictionary, self care means, "The practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health." In contrast, the World Health Organization defines self-care as "the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the assistance of a healthcare provider."However, the true definition of self-care is our deliberate act to improve our physical and mental health by engaging in any activity that detoxifies or de-stresses us. When you take the self-care steps, you feel happy and light, but most people ignore them and it costs them heavily.
2. types of self-care: self-care does not mean the way to find time for yourself, but it’s the art or way of doing different things that provide you with physical and mental peace. There are different types of self care.
a) Physical Self-Care: Because there is a link between the mind and the body, if you are suffering from anxiety, stress, or pressure, it will reflect on your body. Most of the time, we are not able to reduce that, but to live effectively, we have to take care of our body. Physical self-care means what you eat and drink, how much you sleep, how much you take part in physical activities and, more importantly, how much you take care of your physical needs. You should ask yourself if you are getting sufficient sleep. Are you eating healthy food and, moreover, are you exercising?
b) Social Self-Care: As a social animal, we need to be socialized, not for the sake of others, but for the sake of our own well-being. In this busy life, we find it hard to make time for friends and relationships. You may have a lot of friends or followers on social media, but in reality you are all alone because you don’t have time to meet or share your feelings. Close connections are important to your well-being. This is not about the amount of time you spend with each other, but how much quality time you have with them. Everyone has different social needs, and the only thing is that you need to figure out your way to socialize and take care of...
