Temptations
So I sat down to finish a chapter of my ongoing story “Heavenly Kingdoms” which is contained in a single Microsoft Word document, currently 34,000 words long, and I noticed there is a new symbol sitting on the line where I’m about to write. I move my cursor over it and it tells me it is “Co-Pilot” which is Microsoft’s A.I. which is apparently here to help me with my project. I see if I can ignore it and I start typing; the symbol disappears and I feel relieved. Then I hit “Enter” to go to the next line and it appears again, which makes me annoyed so I try and find the settings to turn it off, going to the new Co-Pilot button on the menu which opens a panel on the side of my screen where apparently I can ask it to do things (but I can’t immediately see how to turn it off). One of the pre-set queries it has there is “Summarise this document”. I hesitate for a second, as A.I. makes me wary, but I couldn’t resist seeing what it had to say. So here is the A.I. summary of the “key points” of my story:
