Freedom over night.
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The streetlights were dim as the mist enclosed it in its mysterious grip. She peered out of her window into the darkness, was there someone out there or was it her imagination?
For the past sixteen years of her life, Maria had always imagined and hoped that someone would save and rescue her from her prison. Her parents died in a car accident when she was two years old. A man called Jake took her in but locked her up at the age of 5. The only freedom she felt was looking out of the window waiting and hoping for the day that one person would rescue her. She had always wondered how her parents looked like. Jake never told her, he said he never saw them but he knew they died in a car accident and he saved her.
But he never lets her out of the house. She once asked why...
"The world is dangerous Maria..I'm trying to protect you"
"Protect me from what Jake?" 10 years old Maria asked.
"From people..wicked people... everyone is wicked...everyone except me!"
But the more she grew the more her curiosity grew. She wanted to know how wicked the world was. Why it was wicked. She wanted to taste the fresh air.
And so one night she made up her mind to rescue herself. No one knows her and no one will ever know her until she steps out of that house and run to where she was destined to be. She destroyed each bricks little by little, piece by piece. And so she did that all night never resting or sleeping. By dawn, she had made a hole as small as her small frame for her to escape.
"Just a little more, and I'm good to go."
By day break it was large enough. And then she heard the sound of footsteps coming closer to her room. With panic and adrenaline she passesy through the hole and ran across the street for the first time in her life. Her first wish came true she could taste and feel the fresh air. She closed her eyes and smiled while running. She ran faster never looking back. And she never regretted it.
Thinking back to her life she was so happy she made that decision. Else She would never had experienced true freedom. She's 60 and happy with the love of her life who taught her love and not hatred and wickedness. Life isn't life when you don't take risks. Taking bold steps changes ones story. Her children are all happily married and are happy too. She worked for her freedom all night and she's happy she did.
