Times have changed
As I take the dogs out for their morning walk I notice so many children being bundled into cars by their parents for the journey to school, unfortunately I can pass them again minutes later as the same parents deliver the same children to school.
My ex wife or myself used to walk our children to school, roughly a mile away.
Then we get to the interesting part, I seem to remember walking to school with my sister who's sixteen months older than me, telling me not to step off of the path as the roads were quite busy.
Very quickly I started walking on my own, one day while walking back I saw the bakery was on fire, I was totally transfixed by the flames, several months later I had an out of control fire myself which was attended by the fire brigade.
Some days I would walk through a series of alleyways that had engineering factories amongst others, I loved the smell of cutting oil that clung to the drums of swarthe waste from the lathes and milling machines.
It's no surprise really that I had a career in engineering, I was Welder/ sheetmetal engineer for eleven years, then worked in the fire protection industry for thirty odd years finishing as a commissioning engineer, I retired early and work when I can as a gardener/ handyman.

P.S My path chose me, I wanted to be a chef😉
