Nebula: Chapter 2 - It's Over
It’s been a week since I first woke up. I’m sitting up in my hospital bed eating my breakfast. Scrambled eggs and sausage with a cup of orange juice. I didn’t mind it at all. My body felt much better from the week before. I was still soar and having pains all over but it wasn’t near comparison to what it was like when I woke up the first time. When I first got my food, I realized while putting the fork in my mouth that suddenly I had a silver bracelet with a small symbol engraved in the center of the part facing up. The symbol had a large circle on the outside with a smaller circle between the larger circle and a single, tiny dot in the middle of the circles. I just assumed that the doctors put it on me for medical reasons or something. Who knows, with their technology this is probably healing me quicker somehow. Although, there’s one thing I didn’t understand. The same symbol that’s on my bracelet, is tattooed onto my right wrist! When I asked the doctors what the point of the tattoo was they said, “It’s for identification.” That didn’t make much sense to me because a tattoo is permanent and I’m getting discharged soon. But I’m gonna assume that they’ll somehow take it off with some advanced tech. My family comes everyday to check in on me and talk with the doctors to see my growth in the health department. My friends visit me as much as they can after school too which is a nice break from all the injury stuff. Apparently, we’re already passed Transformations in Geometry class. What a drag, catching up in all my classes is gonna be a total pain. But that hasn’t been on my mind as much as someone would think. What I’m mostly focused on is my eyes. Something strange happens sometimes to them. When I go into the bathroom usually at night, I look in the mirror when I’m washing my hands. Sometimes when I do that though, I see my iris in both eyes glow a violet purple but it goes away after I blink a few times. I told the doctors that I think I might have brain damage because I think I've been having hallucinations but they brushed it off by saying, “ It’s completely normal in this case. For the injury you just got and the time you’ve been in coma, it's not surprising. It’ll go away soon so don’t stress over it.” But it kept happening all the time and it started to make me think the doctors weren’t telling the truth or they just didn’t care. But this was TAI why would they not care!? They’d do everything they could to help me…right!? Other than the glowing eyes and missing school work, I’ve been completely fine I guess. But I know these mellow, relaxed days are gonna end soon because I’m being discharged this Thursday night. As of right now it’s Wednesday. I just hope my life isn’t too hard after this. My thoughts are interrupted when a man with a black suit comes in the door along with the doctors from earlier. He has black hair that’s slicked back on the sides and gel on the top keeping it up and to the right side of his head. His walk taps the back of his heels on the floor making a clicking sound with his glossy, black leather loafers. They slowly stroll over to my bed while whispering to one another. I couldn’t make out what they were saying but I automatically knew who the man was. That’s one of the Bryant Brothers, Mr. Bryant. He stops a foot away from the side of the bed, just enough for his arm to reach me. He holds out his right hand with a warm smile on his face and says, “Hello, Preston. I hope you’ve been settling in well, I’m Mr. Bryant. I’d like to formally welcome you to TAI Headquarters of Atlanta!” I feel like I can’t breathe now, this is all too much for me! At least both of the brothers aren’t here, that’s a relief. The Bryant Brothers are distinguished by their opposite personalities. Dr. Bryant is the brother most known to the public. Smart, logical, and steady minded. Mr. Bryant is known for his kindness, cool personality, and testy ways. Dr. Bryant has white hair and is the eldest of the two brothers. He barely shows emotion except for a faint smile. Mr. Bryant shows himself mostly taking care of smaller subjects for his busy...
