As Christians, we are therefore called to crucify the lusts of the flesh and thereby become dead to sin.

Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

And how do we do this?

Jesus overcame because He did not love the world or the things of the world. He loved the Father with His whole being and despised the things of the world.

John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

Joh 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Here Jesus proclaims that the Prince of this world is Satan whom he has no part with and that He loves the Father and so did what the Father commanded.

Herein is a key point.

Jesus loved the father and this love brought obedience.

Jesus says that if we love Him, the fruits of our love will be our obedience to His word.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

He that keeps Jesus' sayings is he that has the love of God within him. He that believeth not on Jesus nor keeps His sayings does not have the love of God within him but loves rather the world and the things of the world: the things that appeal to our lusts and pride.

This is seen in the following passages:

Joh 5:41 I receive not honour from men.

Joh 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

Joh 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Joh 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

The Scribes and Pharisees sought the honour of men: they sought to satisfy their pride. They therefore did not have the love of God in them.

And as they did not have the love of God they did not receive Him or them whom He sent, though they continued to say they knew and loved God.

We crucify the lusts of the flesh by obedience to the commandments of the Lord.

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience (of God) unto righteousness?

Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed FROM THE HEART that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

1 Peter 1:22
[22]Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

And again, we will not obey Him unless we love Him.

Are you walking daily in obedience to the Word of God?

Note also that this obedience leads us to come to love one another with a fervent, unfeigned love for out of a pure heart.

Do you love with a pure fervent unfeigned love?
