Love, Divorce and Everything else
Chapter19:The Promise
Ryan, after getting off the phone from his private investigator friend, got restless. He now understood that Cynthia was right. Margret and Jack would do anything now that he knows so much money and property was involved. They would do anything to take control back as it involves the property and finances of Margret and her husband due to everything still being under Albert's name and never transferred over to them. As Margret hates Myra so much, she would do anything to get rid of Myra and Emma. This must be killing Margret now, thinking that a girl she thought she had ruined owns everything she was so arrogantly proud of. Ryan could not wait until the day's end and rushed to his car towards the hospital. He tried reaching Cynthia, but she was not picking up the call, probably because she was at the hospital with Myra. He drove as fast as he could, with all the thoughts and planning running through his mind, like what he could do, what Margret could try and do, how he could protect Myra and her
family. By the time he reached the hospital, he parked his car, rushed in to find Cynthia. He didn't want to face Myra's father as he was strictly warned to stay away, so he stopped at a distance and tried calling Cynthia again but no luck. He then saw a nurse leaving Myra's room and walking towards him. He stopped her and asked, 'How is Myra doing?' The nurse stopped, looked at him, and asked, 'Sir, are you her family? If you are, you can go in. We just changed her bandages.' Ryan said, 'Well, I am her boyfriend, but I am not supposed to be here. But if you could do me a favor, if her mother is in there, can you please ask her to come here? It's really urgent.' The nurse replied, 'Sure, I can. And who should I say is asking for her?' Ryan replied, 'Just tell her you need her to come out here and sign some documents.' The nurse replied, 'Sure, please sit. Please wait here, I will go and check.' The nurse then walked back into Myra's room and came out with her mother, leading her to where Ryan was waiting for her. On seeing Ryan, Cynthia was slightly upset and said, 'What are you doing here? You know my husband asked you not to come here.'
Ryan said, 'I know, but I have a really urgent matter to discuss. Can we please go somewhere and talk?' Cynthia agreed to meet Ryan in half an hour at a nearby cafe when she was ready to leave the hospital for the day. She asked Ryan to leave now and wait for her in the cafe. Cynthia was worried that if her husband saw Ryan again, he would get upset, and she didn't want that to happen. Ryan agreed to go to the cafe and sat there patiently, thinking about how he should convey this to her in a less worrying way, as he knew Cynthia would be even more concerned about Myra and Emma now. After a little over half an hour, Cynthia arrived and looked slightly upset. She had to lie to her daughter and her husband, leave the hospital earlier than usual, and asked Ryan how he was doing. She sat down at Ryan's table. Ryan then said, 'Cynthia, before I tell you this, I need you to Promise me you will not worry too much, and I assure you I will do everything to protect all of you. Ryan then went about and told the entire story to Cynthia about what his private investigator found out and shared everything with Cynthia. She looked terrified and was slightly trembling either due to her age, the exertion, or what he told her, but she looked scared. Cynthia then had tears rolling down her cheeks and said, 'What did my daughter ever do to these people? They won't let her be married.' So Margaret got rid of her, and just when she started putting her life together, these people are after her. Even if she surrenders the share of the property, you are saying they won't stop at that because their greed will not be satisfied until they get the share under Emma's name, which she is not legally good to give away until she is an adult. 'Ryan, I am really scared for my babies. Who on earth is this Albert, and why would he give anything to Myra? How would he know about Emma? We never told anyone. Myra hadn't had a friend over in 5 years and hadn't even shared anything about her with anyone. She has maintained her silence on Emma just because of this very reason, fearing they might come and snatch her away for the pleasure they might get from making my daughter suffer. Ryan tried consoling Cynthia by saying, 'You don't have to worry about anything, I will take care of everything. I know that money is everything for my uncle and aunt, and they would do anything to get their hands on Albert's property. They did the same with me just for money, and I will not let them get Emma or even get close to her under any circumstances.' Ryan was surprised too. How would a man who met Myra just a few times at family functions leave all his property to her name? How does he know she has a child? 'I will try to find out. I will not rest until I do.' But he could have given his property to Jack's second wife instead. After all, she has 2 boys with Jack. Or maybe because she is already quite rich and the sole heiress to her father's wealth, Cynthia. I promised myself I will not let any harm come to any one of you. I was kind of curious because I did not believe Aunt Margaret's story about the reason why she wanted Myra or Emma to suffer. Hence, I hired my own investigator to dig the truth out. You should be proud of Myra for leaving an impression on Jack's uncle, who must have been wise and knew how amazing of a person your daughter is. He must have also felt bad that she was hurt so badly by his nephew and his family, that he left everything to her. Why should she give up on anything? She had earned every penny of it and I will make sure she gets to keep everything she deserves. Cynthia looked at Ryan with gratitude and held his hand tight, and said, 'Thank you, my son. You are a very nice person.' My daughter is really lucky to have you in her life.
