A Trans Encounter
I was drunk. Enjoying a home alone Saturday after a hectic week. It was 11am but I had already started drinking. Who cares. Am a college student afterall, that's what we do.
My phone started vibrating in short bursts, arggh these texts while am trying to get drunk on a weekend morning while trying to absorb myself in the tv series Green Arrow.
I lazily picked up my phone. It was a text from her.
She was a college friend of mine. More like an acquaintance. I was very shy and self absorbed at college. I preferred being drunk and not interacting much. Engineering college to me was about living the dream life, flying high. Her name was Shreya and she was a transgender.
We had only exchanged number a few weeks back. Most at college didn't know about her sexuality. Gosh even I didn't when she texted me that day.
She is a very attractive person. Don't judge a book by it's cover. I was just texting her because she was in my college project team. She was nice and willing to pick up my slack - like I said, I wasn't in college to study. So I was grateful to her that she was doing my project work too.
I replied her - same old hi and hello. wssup. weekend plans chatter. I was about to end the convo with mundane responses when she asked me if we can meet. I was alone in my flat for the weekend and I had nothing else planned other than drinking and procastinating, so, I thought what the hell - sure let's meet.
She asked me what I was upto and I replied drinking. She was astonished and asked me when I will be sober to meet. I made a joke and said not today but I can walk upto a common place to meet in afternoon. She agreed. She lived nearby in a rented flat with her friends.
I continued my drinking spree and got lost in Arrow again. Later ordered lunch ate and started feeling sleepy. I thought about cancelling but just at that instant she texted, "Are you free ?". It was about 4pm, and once again I though, what the hell, lets meet. Drunk walking was normal to me. Am the guy who can hold his liquor extremely well. I freshed up, my vision was blurry and shaky. All the drinks was kicking in. Nirvana.
I strolled down to the common place we had decided to meet. Drunk walking is fun. We met on a a side street and greeted each other.
She looked at me and asked, are you well? I replied, never better.
She was looking upset. I thought it was because I showed up drunk. So I said, am sorry, I didn't know you will ask me to meet so I had started drinking since early morning as I wanted to spend the day being drunk.
We sat down on the sidewalk. Started with chitchat. Soon I realised something was bugging her. She was upset and depressed. So I asked her and suddenly she started sobbing. I didn't know what to do. We were on a public street and it looked weird to onlookers with her sobbing. I am not a people person. I tried to console her and she controlled herself.
She told me that she was dating someone and it ended horribly. She was heart broken. I know the feeling. I am a sensitive guy, and I started feeling sorry. I consoled her and asked her for a coffee or ice cream. She complied. We walked to a nearby coffee joint and ordered coffee.
She was getting better. She smiled at me and thanked me for being nice. I smiled back. Then out of curiosity I asked her what had happened with her boyfriend.
She replied that she loves her but she has a secret. Yesterday on a date, she told him and he ditched her and left. I was starting to get curious, but...
