People choose a lie more often because it is sometimes more comfortable than the truth and is much more believable.
People can lie and we don't even know about it. For example, at school among classmates.
They want to be popular with the team, they want to fit in.
For example, they make up that they were on holidays in other countries or they met famous celebrities.
Then they become more interesting.
This kind of deception is caused by a lack of self-confidence.

But have you ever wondered why they lie to the teachers ?
I did, but I couldn't figure out the answer from watching others.
I only found out from my own experience. If you tell them your own opinion and the answer is often not accepted. If you don't tell them what they want to hear, it doesn't really matter because they don't understand
So you better say what they want, and that means lying.

I know one of the reasons people don't always tell the truth is that their truth is often underestimated.
