Do you think I have segregated all this data shown in the picture manually?
Guess what, no. It's not me. It's excel that does.
This magical function we will discuss today i.e. Flash fill. You can find it under the Data tab and data tools group. And yups it's a new function inserted from MS-Excel 2016 so don't search under previous versions.

What Flash fill does?
It identifies the data series and helps in automatically filling the data in the cell. I'll explain its function by referring to the picture. In the picture, I just wrote the Name Surname list. And now I want to a separate list of Name and Surname. So, here I have 2 options.
Option 1: To separate the data manually. Well, I don't find it interesting to do. As here I am having small data but imagine if you have to do it from a list containing 10000 names. I guess even the entire day will be insufficient then.
Option 2: You can use Flash fill. Just type the first name and then click on Flash fill or press Control+E. And you are done. Just a click and your data are ready.
The same you can use to separate the first letter of the first name, the first letter of surname, mobile number without country code and many more. So try and experiment with what other things it can do for you.
Note: Flash fill identifies the data series and fills the data. But if you check the formula bar (Fx box) you will not find any formula reference. So it means it's not an automated function. After separating the data if you have made any change in your original data then Flash fill will not capture that change. You have to do it manually. So this is a fact about working of Flash fill function.
