I think that my lawnmower’s holding a grudge
for some indigestion that I’ve put it through.
I think it’s remembering mouthfuls of dirt
and sticks and the stones that I forced it to chew.

I took grudgey lawnmower down to the creek
so it could eat grass that was juicy and sweet.
It slipped rather cleverly out of control
and I was left stranded with mud on my feet.

I had to get help to pull lawnmower out.
It laughed as we struggled with gravity’s pull.
We won and I finished that side of the creek.
The opposite side, I approached like a fool.

It started to graze, grudgey lawnmower did,
and then with a chuckle, it started...
