It was my last day at the café. As I carried a tray from one table to another, I tried to quiet the thoughts swirling in my mind. Deciding to leave this job hadn't been easy, but I knew I had to free myself from the suffocating feeling I experienced while working here.
The routine of living the same day over and over was suffocating me. I needed to change something—at least in my own life. Still, there was a slight melancholy as I served customers their final coffees. Habits are hard to break, but the growing excitement inside me made it all worthwhile. I was going to make a fresh start, doing things that I truly wanted.
“Luna, you can clean up the tables and then leave,” my manager said, giving me one last task. There was no sadness or empathy in her eyes. Everything was exactly as it should be; I was leaving, and the work would go on as usual.
After wiping down the last few tables, I stepped behind the counter, changed out of my uniform, and made my way toward the exit. It felt strange to think it was all over, but the growing sense of freedom inside me was worth everything.
