This day has got a very significant place in Goa 's history as the Goa Revolution Day. On this day Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia had addressed a public meeting near the Margao Railway Station. The movement he began with his speech, he was arrested and was taken to Margao police station.Due to his arrest number of people urged to the police station rising slogans.Women had actively participated in this event. Vatsala Kirtani was the first goan woman to be arrested by the Portuguese officers to raise a slogan Jai Hind. Therefore this day, 18June, is considered as the Goa Revolution Day since it sparked a sense of revolution among the Goans. It lightened the torch to achieve independence from the unjust rule of Portuguese. The 18 June road of Panjim is the remembrance of this.
