Love, Divorce and Everything else
Chapter17:The Question
Ryan was relieved after the phone call with Cynthia and started unpacking his bags. While calling his travel agent, he asked the agent to cancel any reservations booked. He was now full of hope that there is a slight chance that Myra would consider forgiving him. Ryan then started thinking that Cynthia was right. A threat is not enough to stop Margaret or Jack from harassing Myra and her family. He called a friend, Roger, and shared what had happened. He asked Roger if this was a good enough reason to get a restraining order against Margaret and Jack. His friend suggested, 'You should not interfere and let the parties involved deal with it.' Roger said, 'Listen, Ryan, I have your best interest in mind and I know you like this woman. However, you might not know the whole story. It's always better to not get yourself involved. You can share this as a suggestion, but it's better to advise than to get involved and take matters into your hands. You don't want to lead a band that does not want to play the music.'
Ryan got upset and asked his friend if he could get the papers prepared or if he could find someone else. He quoted, 'They are like my family, and her parents are too old to help her.' Myra is in the hospital, so she cannot do anything. As time counts, he wishes to take action before Margret and Jack come up with new ideas to fuel their plans. Roger agreed to prepare the papers and mail them over to Ryan to be signed. Ryan then got back to thinking about what else can be done. He called another person he knew who used to work for Ryan as a private investigator. He shared all the details with him and asked him to find out the private investigator who was hired by his aunt to keep an eye on Myra, her family, and himself. He also instructed him to find out more about why Margret was so interested in Emma. He was sure his aunt and Jack were still hiding something. He couldn't shake the thought. Why was she so interested in Myra and Emma after 5 years? After all, Jack had two more children; she could have asked their mother to give them up, and the reason his aunt shared to hurt Myra and torture Emma was right. He then walked into his study, grabbed his laptop, and started looking through father's claim cases under such circumstances and judgments given. He knew if Margaret and Jack got the proof, they would file a case against Myra, and it wouldn't matter to them what condition she was in. Ryan, at this point, was determined to do everything in his power to not allow his aunt to bring any harm to the little girl and try to separate her from her mother. While doing that, he kept thinking how his aunt would treat her like an outsider. He had to work to earn food and clothes, and even though he did everything he was told, all he was given was Jack's old clothes and leftover stale food from the previous day. How he would have to wake up four hours before everyone else in the early morning to clean the house, make breakfast, and only then would he be allowed to go to school. How his aunt would not allow him to go anywhere after school and was asked to prepare dinner, while Jack would hang out with his friends after school and play games, he had the duty to serve them food and soft drinks when they took a break. He was only 11 years old and had lost both his parents, but no one, not even the neighbors or Jack's friends, said or did anything. He was scared to tell anyone about it because he was scared he would be taken away from the only family he had known. He remembered how good his aunt was to him when his mom and dad were alive. His uncle and aunt, Margaret, were his favorite, and Jack was his favorite cousin. Ryan's mom was the younger sister to Margaret and she adored her. Her parents always told him to trust them, respect them, and love them, but how things changed, and how his favorite uncle, aunt, and cousin turned his life into a living hell at such a young age. He didn't want Emma to go through any of it and give Margaret another chance to hurt another innocent child; he, however, still had this one disturbing question: why? His Aunt only took him in because of the money his parents had left him. His Aunt and Uncle tried convincing him multiple times that he was not fit to handle money and that he should hand it over. In Emma's case, her parents have limited income through pensions and rent money from 2 properties they own, which is not a substantial amount. As for Myra, she works full time and is trying to save money to give Emma a better future. But 5 years is not a lot of time to save up that much. Then, why, after all, is Margaret, even though her husband is quite rich, well known for being greedy? That's one of the reasons she got rid of Myra and had Jack marry a second time to a single child who was the daughter of a wealthy businessman.
Ryan concluded he needs to find out the real reason behind everything and fight for Myra to earn her trust and love back.
