A Table For Two
Maya woke up to the sound of her phone’s alarm. Groggily, she squinted at the time—it was 6:45 AM. She groaned, realizing it was Saturday. Without much thought, she snuggled deeper into her blanket. But then, sleep eluded her as the memories of the previous night flooded back.
She had been in a rush when she left the office, and the thought that she should have checked her fuel tank nagged at her. Then, she recalled him—Dr. Vishesh. What was he doing outside the cannabis store? She had a thousand questions, and they kept circling in her mind. Should she just hand the car keys to Dona and avoid meeting him? But, would that be rude? After all, he had helped her at the right moment when she needed it most.
Still, his flirtatious smile lingered in her mind. She remembered the first time they met at the clinic. “I could give up one lunch to make her smile,” he had said, his voice light with teasing. Maya shook her head, trying to shake off the confusion. But the thoughts kept spiraling.
She checked the time again. It was already 7:45 AM. With a sigh, she stood up, tying her hair loosely and heading for the bathroom.
At 9 AM, Smriti walked out of her room, yawning.
“Morning, Mimi. You’re up early,” she said, noticing Maya sipping her coffee.
Maya gave her a side-eye before taking another sip.
“What's up? You look like you had the weirdest dream,” Smriti teased, still half asleep.
Maya hesitated, clearly troubled. “Sim, I need your help.”
Smriti blinked. "Uh-oh, okay, shoot."
Maya looked at her friend. “Dr. Vishesh... He was outside the cannabis store last night."
Smriti raised an eyebrow. “So?”
“I don’t know, Sim. He’s a dentist! What was he doing there? Is he... one of those people?”
Simriti burst out laughing. "What? He's a dentist, not a saint. Let the man live a little."
“I just don’t know if I should see him again. I don’t want to make it weird,” Maya admitted.
“Girl, just thank him and return the keys. Don’t overthink it.” Smriti waved her hand dismissively. “You’re making this more complicated than it needs to be.”
Maya sighed. “But it’s not just that. I’m not sure how to handle this. Should I just go meet him, thank him, and leave? Maybe I’ll get Dona to handle it.”
Smriti laughed. “Maya, you’re being dramatic. Just go. You owe him a thank you, and you're holding...
