Evolution-A Confounding Affair
20 billion years ago a gigantic explosion paved the way for the present age of universe. What was it again?
... the Big Bang!
And then came Hydrogen and Helium, the beautiful celestial bodies encompassed in massive galaxies. Then came Oxygen and Water, Eruptions and Oceans..
.. just like that... Life
Early Organisms were quite simple, in function and behaviour. You know, the first mammals were rather like shrews. however the environment isn't static nor predictable. Soon with the ever-changing condition came into picture- Evolution. Such a fascinating subject.
Along with it, we get to know about the transitions from heterotrophs to autotrophs, origin and diversification of life forms and of course the topic is incomplete without the mention of the pioneers.
Who hasn't heard about Darwin, the man who had little innovation but wider they reach and there is Lamarck and his absurd theory of use and disuse (it is based on the fact that the neck of Giraffe keeps on increasing as he reaches out for the leaves on tall branches) and Spencer, Oparin and Haldane, Weismann and De Vreis, Harold and Urey.
Yes this thing is getting quite boring. What I've been wanting to say is, of course a lot has changed in all these years and that is going to continue for as long as life exists.
The origin of life was spectacular. According to the estimates, it originated 4 billion years ago, about 500 million years after the formation of Earth. Humans or rather hhominids originated about 24 million years ago and as I keep saying they were gifted with a remarkable brain.
We are able to think, innovate, compare and respond in the quickest and the best possible way. All this, because of evolution.
The environment can be challenging.
We have to adopt and with that evolve. It may have been due to accumulation of variations, as Darwin said. Or by mutations, according to De Vries. The point is, the connection is inevitable.
We think of ourselves as the superior beings. That is an obstinate and narrow minded approach. Evolution is a need not an opportunity. And of course, inevitable.
There are going to be superior beings in the future probably non-humans who would dug up the earth, find our fossils and continue looping.
The loops of life continue...
Evolution of organisms allows survival and anything which helps the organisms to live better is a pre-requisite of generations to come.
