Chapter One
A basketball bounces hard off the backboard, Mary Ann's heart beeps when she hears a loud groan beside her. Lisa turned to Mary Ann with a look of sadness. Lisa speaks in the tongue of hope. "If he doesn't step it up, they're going to lose!" Mary Ann rolled her eyes at her best friend, who's never cared about sports until she saw the town hottie, Wesley, play. Mary Ann speaks in a friendly manner, " Do you even know how many points he'd get from that? they're so far behind, it'll take a miracle to win." Lisa gives Mary Ann a dirty look and smacks her on the shoulder.

Then she speaks poorly, "Don't be such a party poorer! Miracles do happen, you know. If anyone can pull it off, it's him." Mary Ann stared dreamily at the tall sandy-haired guy currently streaking down the court, Lisa's sights. Mary Ann smirks knowingly. Lisa has been crushing on Wesley, who is often said to be the cutest guy in town. Fit and tan, all the girls love him.

That is exactly why Mary Ann and Lisa are among a group of about 8 girls there, who only came to watch him play. Mary Ann loses in her daydreaming again, (He sure looks good in that shirt, it brings out his green eyes...) Soon a loud boom echoes throughout the park just as Wesley stole the ball and started to rush to the hoop.

Everyone stops to look up, seeing dark storm clouds heading their way. Mary Ann takes one more look at the sky and shakes her head, "We better hit the road, Lisa. I have to pick up uncle Jim, and I'd like to beat the storm home." Lisa loses in her tracks watching Wesley. Mary Ann stared at her then Lisa came back to earth. Speaking as if she saw a ghost,

"Yeah, I don't want to be stuck driving in it. looks like the boys are calling it quits anyway." Mary Ann joins everyone else up her things, tossing her phone and bottled water in her purse, then heads to her car.

Lisa speaks with a warm smile, "Call me tonight. I'm going to wait just a minute to try to catch Wesley." Mary Ann rolled her eyes and twitched her lips, but she stopped herself from smiling at Lisa's antics. Staring at Lisa, "You do know that stalking him at the park is not going to get you a date, right?" Lisa's smile brightens, "What are you jealous of me because he never flirts with you." Mary Ann can't help but laugh at Lisa, "Oh please, we have real conversations, you and I know, He is not my type to date. We are friends." Lisa sticks her tongue at Mary Ann, then turns towards her car and calls over her shoulder.
