Mar 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first (most important) commandment of all?

Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Mar 12:31 And the second (in importance) is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Mar 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Mar 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any more questions.

Here Jesus shows us what is God's greatest desires for us: to love Him with all our being and to love our fellow man. To do this, He says is to be near the kingdom of God.

Mattew 6:19-21 tells us:

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Our hearts will be on what we treasure the most.

What do you treasure the most?
What do you think about and pursue the most? What do you value the most? What you love, you treasure. These are the treasures on which you've set your heart.

We are to set our hearts (to love) those things that we can lay up within heaven and not those things of the earth that can be stolen or that will pass away with the using of it.

Such things are those things given by God and not man.

This is emphasized in Colossians 3:1-2

Col 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

God wants us to set our affections (our hearts) on things above and not on the things of this earth.

He wants us to treasure those things that are from above and not those things that are from below.

These things are the Kingdom of Heaven itself (which is the Holy Ghost) and the things that originate from this Kingdom.

Romans 14:17
[17]For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

If God wants us to love Him with all our heart, then He wants our hearts to be on Him: He wants us to treasure Him above all.
These are the things that we should value the most: These should be our priority: God and His kingdom.

Mt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We must also look at the things that God treasures and seek to lay up these things.
God treasures the things of Kingdom of God which is righteousness, peace, joy and other such fruits of the Holy Ghost.

And He treasures the salvation of souls ABOVE ALL.

He treasured our souls above the life of His Own Son.

John 3:16
[16]For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

He forsook all for us...

Shouldn't we be willing to forsake all for Him and His kingdom?

Mt 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
